We're less than six months away from seeing the finished version of the A5, a new Audi coupe sized between the A4 and the A6, with styling based on the 2003 Nuvolari concept's. Expect it to be at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2007, and on sale in the summer. As a sporty, luxury coupe it's a natural rival to the Mercedes CLK and BMW 3-Series Coupe, but it's bigger than both of those cars and will have four full-size seats. It will be powered by two potent V6 engines: a 3.0-litre diesel and a 3.2-litre petrol. The coupe will be followed in late 2007 by an A5 Convertible that will replace the current soft-top A4. The A5's chassis will also provide the basis for the next-generation A4 and A6. The Audi A5 is likely to be followed by a Volkswagen sister model, priced between the Passat and Phaeton ranges. Although it will use the same platform as the two-door A5 seen here, the VW may have four doors, providing a challenge to Mercedes's luxury coupe, the CLS.
