575 HP Jaguar F-Type Project 7 Officially Ready to Excite
Jaguar has officially unveiled its amazing F-Type Project 7, a car that's sure to cause quite a stir in the roadster market. The amazing-looking machine has been created by the Special Operations division in order to celebrate the 60th anniversary year of the Jaguar D-type racer and 7 victories at Le Mans. It's thus packed with heritage, but we'd buy it simply because it's the most amazing looking leaper of the century.
Not a mass production model, the Project 7 will nevertheless be available in 250 exclusive units, each made by hand on the backbone of the F-Type Roadster. Expected to cost somewhere around £135,000 when on sale, it's far out of the reach of normal mortals, and yet it still manages to be cheaper than a 911 Turbo S (£142,000).
Part of the reason this Jag is expensive has to do with the way it's made. Downforce-increasing elements like the front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser and rear spoiler have been fabricated from carbon fiber. Ceramic brakes and also standard, a massive 398mm at front and 380mm rear discs with six-piston calipers that grab on like a tiger to its pray. Meanwhile, the body is made entirely from aluminum, helping keep the weight down to a modest 1,585 kg (3,495 lbs).
Many numbers stand out from the pages of the press release, but one shines above all others: 575 hp (566 bhp), the output of the supercharged V8 engine, accompanied by 680 Nm of torque. They allow this beautiful but hefty machine to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.9-sec), making the 7 Jaguar's fastest ever production car.
Top speed? An impressive 186 mph (300 km/h), but only because Jaguar is worried about your safety. And yet if we owned the Project 7, most of the time would be spent admiring its lines at 0 mph.
