21 months, 4038 pictures, 108 days of work, 60 trips to the dealer, 30 trips to the body shop, countless cuts, and 4 pairs of sandals later...

    !!!PROJECT MITE46 EXTERIOR COMPLETED!!!

Looking back at 2004-05-20 when I started this project...I realized how little I knew about cars...but I had a goal...some common sense...some hope...and most importantly, inspiration from you guys, the E46fanatics community...

I've been here for sometime now...since the original website under a different handle...so I've seen how the board has changed over the years...I just wanted to let you guys know that your praises and constructive criticisms have all been appreciated...=)

I've sorted this project into several categories:

    1. Debating the project (2 Months)
    2. Repairing the damaged engine (7 Months)
    3. Taking apart the car (2 Months)
    4. Putting in the engine (4 Months)
    5. Taking the car to the dealer (1 Month)
    6. Bodyshop for repaint (5 Months)

    1. 2004-05-20 Inspection - I remember when I first saw this engine...I was thinking no way...I have no idea what any of this is...

    2004-06-25 Parts 2

    2. 2004-07-14 Parts Delivery - But I can't say no to a good price...I could just sell off the parts and make a return...but that would be no fun right?

2004-08-21 Engine Repair - Head Cover - Then I realized how much the parts cost...even at below wholesale prices...I spent more on OEM parts than anything else...

    2004-09-04 Throttle Bodies

    2004-09-10 Engine Harness

2004-10-16 Rod Bearing Recall - Then to make things worse I realized I had to do the rod bearing recall...I was hoping not to open the bottom end but now I had to...

2004-10-23 Broken Engine Mount - And of course everything possible was broken even though you couldn't tell on the first day...you have to take apart the engine to tell...

2004-11-06 Iridium Spark Plugs - Then I was thinking...I might as well go all out...AA SC brainstorming...

    2004-11-06 Plasma Coils

    __________________
2004-11-07 AA E46 M3 Supercharger - So I went through with it...Not sure if it'll all work...that's way you aim your goals high right? =p

2004-11-20 Oil Filter Change - Might as well...

2004-12-10 Pallet Jack - Originally I was going to have a shop put the engine in for me...then I realized that would cost too much and I'd give it a shot myself...

    3. 2005-02-03 Disassembly - The 323i has 40k miles on it...perfectly healthy...got me through college...awesome car...no problems...

    2005-02-03 Front Face

2005-02-05 Ball Joints - Then I got a little smarter...I started buying the right tools and such...

    2005-02-06 Exhaust System

    2005-02-07 Center Console

    2005-02-12 NAV Removal

    2005-02-15 Front Dash

2005-02-20 Coils - Taking things out are definately much easier than putting them in...

2005-03-12 Fuel Rail - This backfried and I got gasoline everywhere...stupid...Then I was stupid for filling up the tank before I started taking the car apart...

    2005-03-19 Rear Subframe - This was a pain...especially without a lift...

Then I yanked the engine...with the help of a pallet jack...

    4. 2005-03-27 Assembly - Rear Subframe - Now comes the harder part putting everything back together...

2005-04-03 Coolant Tank - These are relocated on the M3 b/c of the bigger radiator...

2005-04-04 Fuel Pump - High pressure pumps at WOT...

    2005-04-14 Fuel Lines

2005-04-15 Drive By Wire - My car was drive by cable...

2005-04-16 Steering Rack - Kept my 323i rack b/c the M3 had a hole in it...maybe I'll get a CSL one one day...

2005-04-17 Invisible Car - Then there was the wiring...probably the hardest part...

    2005-04-20 Engine - Installed the M3 engine...

2005-04-21 SC Oil Tank - Finished up the rest of the piping...

    2005-04-22 Intercooler

    2005-04-24 Oil Cooler

2005-04-27 Control Arms - M3 control arms are wider I think...but most importantly it has extra bolt holes for the reinforcement plate...

2005-05-01 Wiring - Sorting out Coupe / Sedan differences...went through every wire in the entire harness...

2005-05-03 Brake Cylinder - Tried to get a bigger brake cylinder but it didn't fit...

2005-05-06 Misc - More hoses and stuff...

2005-05-08 Steering Connect - This was a pain...It's in the worst possible position in the middle of the engine bay...

2005-05-09 Engine Fluids - Topped off all the fluids...

    2005-05-10 More Wiring
