2021 Porsche 718 Cayman And Boxster Get More Standard Features, GT4 A PDK Option
    JUNE 24, 2020

Speaking of the PDK, you can finally get it on the 718 Cayman GT4, 718 Spyder and the 718 GTS 4.0 models for the first time ever. However, be prepared to wait, because six-cylinder 718 variants equipped with the PDK gearbox should reach U.S. dealers early next year.

Still, if you place an order now for a new 2021 model year 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 and Cayman GTS 4.0, know that they should arrive in showrooms before the end of 2020. Pricing for the Cayman GTS 4.0 starts at $86,800, while the Boxster GTS 4.0 has an MSRP of $88,900 – not including $1,350 delivery, processing and handling fee.

Both variants are powered by a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer unit, putting down 394 HP (400 PS) and 309 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque. That’s good enough to get you from zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 4.3 seconds, even with the six-speed manual gearbox as standard. Top speed is rated at 182 mph (293 km/h).

Opting for a 718 GTS model means getting the following performance features as standard: Sports Seats Plus, Sport Chrono Package, Sport Exhaust System, PASM Sport Suspension, a mechanical limited-slip differential with Porsche Torque Vectoring, and satin black 20-inch wheels.

2021 model year brings significantly upgraded standard equipment and new options
Atlanta, Georgia. For the 2021 model year in the U.S., many of the 718 Boxster and Cayman models are receiving a comprehensive list of upgraded standard features. All standard 718 Boxster and Cayman models, as well as the T, S and GTS 4.0 variants, will come standard with automatic two-zone climate control, heated front seats and auto-dimming mirrors with rain sensor for the new model year. Additionally, Apple CarPlay® as well as bi-xenon headlights with the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) (bi-xenon in Black with PDLS for GTS 4.0) will become standard features. Prices start at $59,900 for the 718 Cayman, and $62,000 for the 718 Boxster, not including the $1,350 delivery, processing and handling fee. As before, all models come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, and can be optionally fitted with a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission.

Now available to order: the 2021 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 and 718 Cayman GTS 4.0

First shown at the beginning of the year, the new 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 and 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 are now available to order for the 2021 model year and expected to reach U.S. dealers at the end of 2020. The 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 will be priced starting at $86,800, while the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 has an MSRP of $88,900, each not including the $1,350 delivery, processing and handling fee. Both models are powered by a 4.0 liter, naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine producing 394 hp and 309 lb.-ft. of torque. Paired with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, both models can reach 60 mph from standstill in as little as 4.3 seconds, and reach a top track speed of 182 mph. Typical for a GTS model, many performance features are standard, including Sport Seats Plus, the Sport Chrono Package, Sport Exhaust System, PASM Sport Suspension, a mechanical limited-slip differential with Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) and 20-inch wheels painted in satin black.

    Optional: 7-speed PDK for 718 Cayman GT4, 718 Spyder and 718 GTS 4.0 models

For the first time, the 718 Cayman GT4, 718 Spyder as well as the 718 GTS 4.0 models will be optionally available with the 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. This transmission offers the potential for quicker acceleration through rapid and seamless shifts. Six-cylinder 718 variants ordered with this option are expected to reach U.S. dealers in early 2021.

The model year change comes along with more standard equipment.

The Porsche 718 lineup is entering the 2021 model year in the United States with a bevy of updates, kicking off with the much-awaited arrival of the PDK for six-cylinder models. The Cayman GT4, 718 Spyder, and the GTS 4.0 models will be optionally available with a dual-clutch, seven-speed transmission.

It will change gears quicker than the manual regardless of how good of a driver you are. If you’re interested, it’ll be a long wait as the first PDK-equipped 718s with the naturally aspirated flat-six engine won’t arrive at US dealers sooner than early 2021.

Originally unveiled at the beginning of the year, the 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster in the GTS 4.0 flavor are finally available to order from $86,800 in the case of the coupe and $88,900 for the convertible with the standard six-speed manual. The PDK versions cost $90,530 and $92,630, respectively.

Step up to the range-topping GT4 and Spyder and you're looking at $100,200 and $97,300, respectively, with the manual transmission. Their PDK siblings cost $103,410 and $100,510. In all cases, you’ll have to pay an extra $1,350 for delivery, processing, and handling fees.

If these are out of your price range, the lesser models are now more appealing than before thanks to an extended list of standard equipment. Whether you’re interested in a base model, T, S, or the aforementioned GTS 4.0, all come with dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, auto-dimming mirrors, and automatic wipers. For your money’s worth, the boys and girls from Zuffenhausen will also throw in Apple CarPlay integration and adaptive bi-xenon headlights, which come in black for the GTS 4.0 model.

The most affordable Cayman money can buy will set you back $59,900 whereas the equivalent Boxster is $62,000, plus the destination and handling fees. A three-pedal setup comes standard, with an optional PDK available.

Porsche is planning at least one more update for the 718 lineup before the generation switch as spy shots have revealed a range-topping 718 Cayman GT4 RS is in the works. It’s said to up the power ante from the GT4’s already healthy 414 hp to nearly 500 hp, but prepare to pony up some serious cash. It’s rumored to cost somewhere in the region of $130,000 when it will debut at one point in 2021.

The 2021 Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 starts at $88,150 while the convertible Boxster GTS 4.0 is priced starting at $90,250. Both cars are powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six that produces 394 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque. That engine is essentially the 992-generation 911's 3.0-liter flat-six, though Porsche bores and strokes it out to 4.0 liters and rips off the turbochargers.
The GTS 4.0 models come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, and now the quick-shifting seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission is also available for $3730. The cars have a standard sport exhaust system and the Sport Chrono package, which includes torque vectoring with a mechanical limited-slip differential.

Porsche Bares Details On PDK-Equipped 718 Cayman GT4, Spyder, GTS 4.0

They're quicker than the stick-shift models and here are the numbers.
When Porsche revealed the changes on the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman for the 2021 model year – particularly in the 718 Cayman GT4, 718 Spyder, and 718 Boxster/Cayman GTS 4.0 – the news came with an announcement that the much-awaited PDK for six-cylinder models is also arriving. The release, however, contained more of how much you'll spend in buying them rather than the numbers to back up the comparative claim.

Now it's time to indulge in how different the PDK-equipped models are when compared to their stick-shift counterparts.

According to Porsche, the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder models with optional seven-speed, dual-clutch accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) in 3.7 seconds, which is quite quicker than the 4.2 seconds of their manual counterparts. Meanwhile, the PDK-equipped 718 Boxster/Cayman GTS 4.0 models accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds – again, quicker than the 4.3 seconds of the manual.

All mentioned models here get more torque when equipped with PDK, specifically 8 pound-feet more than the standard 309 pound-feet (419 Newton-meters) of the stick-shift, naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six mill. They all get shorter seventh gear ratio, as well (0.71 compared to 0.62), when compared to other PDK-equipped 718s.

Apart from more torque, the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder get more traction when equipped with PDK. This is due to the limited-slip differential operating with higher locking values than with manual transmission: 30 percent in traction and 37 percent in overrun (compared to 22 percent and 27 percent with the manual, respectively).

Porsche also added that the 718 Boxster/Cayman GTS 4.0 comes standard with Sport Chrono Package, with an additional Sport Response button added to the steering wheel of those who'll go for the PDK. Of course, the Auto Blip button found on the manual 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder will be replaced with a PDK Sport button.

It isn't all numbers and performance upgrades for the 2021 Porsche 718 models. According to the release, the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder models can be had in Python Green, while the 718 Spyder can be ordered with Aurum color wheels and summer tires instead of the standard Ultra-High-Performance tires.

As a bonus, the PDK gear selector of the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder models will come in 911 GT3 design.

Meanwhile, An Even Hotter Version Is Coming:

Porsche Cayman GT4, Boxster Spyder, And GTS 4.0 Models Land With A PDK

Porsche has announced all of the juicy details related to the PDK transmission now on offer for the 718 Cayman GT4, 718 Boxster Spyder, and 718 Boxster/Cayman GTS 4.0 models.

All of these models have previously been sold exclusively with six-speed manual transmissions but with the optional seven-speed dual-clutch, Porsche hasn’t just improved the performance of the models but will also generate additional sales.

Porsche says that the 718 Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder models can sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) in a mere 3.7 seconds with the PDK. That’s significantly quicker than models with the standard stick shift that require 4.2 seconds to reach the same mark. As for the Boxster and Cayman GTS 4.0 models, they can hit 60 mph in 3.8 seconds with the PDK down from 4.3 seconds with the manual.

The German automaker’s PDK available for these 4.0-liter models has a shorter seventh gear ratio than the PDK available on other 718 models. Additionally, PDK-equipped variants benefit from an extra 8 lb-ft (10.8 Nm) of torque. The PDK also improves handling as Porsche has coupled it with a new limited-slip differential operating with higher locking values that reportedly results in 30 per cent more grip in traction mode and 37 per cent more grip in over-run mode. With improved acceleration and even better handling, there’s no doubt the PDK models will also be faster around a racetrack.

Buying a PDK-equipped model comes at a bit of a premium. For Boxster and Cayman GTS 4.0 models, it adds $3,730 to the sticker price. For 718 Boxster Spyder and Cayman GT4 models, the price hike amounts to $3,210.

Porsche 718 Spyder PDK Engine and Exhaust Sound

    Tanto el Boxster como el Cayman 718 GTS 4.0 variantes (718 Cayman GTS 4.0 PDK: consumo de combustible combinado 9,6 l / 100 km; emisiones de CO2 combinadas 219 g / km (a 09/2020); 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 PDK: consumo de combustible combinado 9,6 l / 100 km; emisiones de CO2 combinadas 219 g / km (a partir de 09/2020)), así como los modelos 718 Spyder y 718 Cayman GT4 de gama alta, ahora también están disponibles con transmisión automática. Con PDK, no hay interrupciones en la aceleración durante los cambios de marcha. Esto aumenta la comodidad de los cambios de marcha y mejora los valores de aceleración. En comparación con los modelos 718 con transmisión manual, el modelo 718 Spyder PDK de 309 kW (420 PS;

Porsche 718 Spyder PDK Engine and Exhaust Sound

In the flagship 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 models, the driving mode has a characteristic that’s typical of the GT variants: it can be programmed for maximum performance using the PDK Sport button. An automatic selector lever, which echoes the design in the 911 GT3, underlines the emotionally charged GT experience. The seventh gear of the PDK has a shorter ratio in all 718 four-litre naturally aspirated engine derivatives.

In addition, the PDK versions of the 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 benefit from the enhancements made to their mechanical locking rear differential: in traction and overrun modes, this achieves locking values of 30 and 37 per cent as compared with 22 and 27 per cent with the manual transmission. This has a positive effect on the longitudinal and lateral dynamics as well as traction, and increases driving pleasure.

All Porsche 718 models can now be ordered with the seven-speed Porsche dual-clutch transmission (PDK).

Both the Boxster and Cayman 718 GTS 4.0 variants (718 Cayman GTS 4.0 PDK: Fuel consumption combined 9.6 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined 219 g/km (as of 09/2020); 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 PDK: Fuel consumption combined 9.6 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined 219 g/km (as of 09/2020)), as well as the range-topping 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 models, are now also available with an automatic transmission. With PDK, there are no interruptions in acceleration during gear changes. This increases the comfort of the gear shifts and improves the acceleration values. Compared with the 718 models with the manual transmission, the 309 kW (420 PS; 718 Spyder PDK:

Coche precioso por fuera. Algo “desfasado” por dentro. Es decir, que pienso requiere un buen lavado de cara por dentro.

Se lo estarán reservando para la próxima generación. ¿Pantallas everywhere?

¿Sacarán solo una versión híbrida o sacaran un boxster/cayman 100% eléctrico?

We review the Porsche 718 Spyder which is mechanically similar to the GT4. Pure-focused cars are disappearing in favor of fully electronic and automated do everything sports machines. While vehicles like the Chevy Corvette, LC500, and Jaguar F Type have the better luxury they lack engagement like the Porsche. Which would you choose? #porsche #spyder #gt4

Porsche Cayman GT4 review - my new favourite car?

    6 ago 2021

    carwow

This is the Porsche Cayman GT4, and Mat’s on hand to run you through all the upgrades compared to the standard Cayman!
For starters, it’s easy to spot the GT4 when it's compared to the regular car. From the huge rear wing and diffuser at the back through to the massive front splitter at the front, the GT4 clearly looks like it means business compared to its baby brother.
And trust us, the difference doesn’t stop with the looks! The GT4 is powered by a 4-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six which can deliver 420hp & 420Nm of torque, and it sounds absolutely gorgeous!
But of course, being a Porsche, you know there are countless options to add - and the price can easily stack up! The question is, once you add the cost of these to the starting price, is it really worth it?! Well, you know what to join… Stick with Mat for his latest in-depth review to find out!
