The Porsche Taycan Will Come With Three Years of Free Charging and Charge Faster Than Any EV
    [IMG]
Everyone knows that every Porsche is supposed to be fast. Well, by modern standards I guess a 356 or a 914 aren’t really fast at all, but just try and play along, okay? Porsche is planning on selling their all-electric Taycan later this year, and they’re planning on that car being the fastest. But not the old kind of driving-speed fastest; they want it to be the fastest-charging EV you can buy.

Really, if you think about it, this is a very smart move. While they Taycan will certainly be fast in the conventional sense—it’ll do 0 to 60 mph in about three and a half seconds—being faster while charging is actually the sort of speed that owners can actually really appreciate, in a real-world way.

Klaus Zellmer, the head of Porsche Cars North America, explained it toBloomberg this way:

“Getting into a car and doing 0-to-60 mph in less than three seconds—can you really differentiate yourself if you do it in 2.8 seconds, and the other can do it in 2.7? “There are other factors that will gain importance, such as charging time.”

I mean, come on, the dude’s not wrong. When it comes down to how the car will actually be used, charging time is way more important. Range is, too, and the Taycan is supposed to have a 310 mile range, which is competitive with companies like Tesla.

With that in mind, Porsche is designing the Taycan to have an 800V batterythat can take a 350kW charge, which will allow it to get 60 miles of range in four minutes. To provide that super-lightning-punch 350kW charge, Volkswagen has a subsidiary called Electrify America that is planning to build a network of 300 highway fast-charging stations that will at least be started by July 1st, and by early 2020, 120 Porsche dealerships are supposed to offer fast charging stations as well.

By comparison, Tesla’s Superchargers use 120 kW charging stations that can get a Tesla to 80 percent charge in 30 minutes, which is over 250 miles, but there’s nothing equivalent to Porsche’s 60-miles-in-four-minutes charge, and the Porsche could likely hit a similar range or higher in 30 minutes as well.

When you buy your new Taycan, you’ll get free charges at any of these charging stations for three years. I mean, it’s free if you don’t figure that the cost is factored into the overall cost of the car, because of course it is. The official price of the Taycan has yet to be released.

Three years of “free” charging and a super-fast and useful way to get 60 miles of charge make the Taycan a very formidable Tesla-fighter, especially when you add in the striking styling of the car and the significant clout of the Porsche brand.

Tesla has managed to stay untouchable from competition like the Chevy Bolt largely because of more intangible criteria like styling and status; Porsche will be the first really well-equipped challenger that could knock Tesla from the EV Status throne.

    Pues a mi me encanta.

    Me vais a reventar,jajaja

    PRESS RELEASE
    28 JANUARY 2019
(PCNA) today announced an agreement with Electrify America, LLC to provide the first all-electric Porsche, the Taycan, with three years of charging at Electrify America public stations across the country. This charging benefit will be included in the price of the Taycan. In addition, Porsche U.S. dealers will install their own fast-charge kiosks. Porsche will also offer home charging technology. Taken together, these three components will make up a comprehensive power network for the Taycan when it launches late this year.

Electrify America highway and metro stations, and many Porsche dealers, will offer DC fast charging at rates up to 350 kilowatts. Using 800 volt technology and the combined charging system (CCS) plug, the Taycan will be able to add more than 60 miles of range in four minutes – the fastest in today’s automotive market.

“Every Porsche is a sports car with soul, and the Taycan is soul electrified,” said Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of PCNA. “Together, Electrify America and our Porsche dealer network will provide a national infrastructure for DC fast charging that frees future Taycan owners from range anxiety. And Porsche home charging technology will turn the customer’s garage into the equivalent of a personal gas station.”

Taycan buyers will receive three years of unlimited 30-minute charging at Electrify America locations, comprised of more than 300 highway stations in 42 states as well as more than 180 sites in 17 metro areas. Each location will have an average of five charging dispensers, with some having as many as 10.

The Electrify America highway stations will have a minimum of two 350 kW chargers per site, with additional chargers delivering up to 150kW. The highway stations will be spaced along multiple routes and no more than 120 miles from each other. Nationally, the distance between highway stations will average 70 miles. Charging dispensers at metro locations will be able to charge at speeds up to 150 kW.

The first phase of Electrify America’s nationwide ultra-fast charging network will feature 484 locations with more than 2,000 charging dispensers installed or under construction by July 1, ahead of the Taycan’s arrival in late 2019. The company’s second phase of charger installations is expected to deploy hundreds of additional charging sites beginning July 2019.

To further expand power options, all 191 U.S. Porsche dealerships will install DC fast charging. More than 120 of these dealerships will feature Porsche Turbo Charging, which is the automaker’s own DC system that delivers up to 320 kW and also uses the CCS plug. The remaining dealerships will install 50 kW fast chargers.

Together, the total investment by Porsche dealers in charging infrastructure will be about $70 million.

The first Porsche Turbo Chargers are already installed at the Porsche Experience Center (PEC) in Atlanta and more are planned for the PEC Los Angeles.

Most cars spend 95 percent of their time parked at home or at work, so new charging options for the Taycan will include a Porsche-designed home system. Details of the system and installation options will follow soon.

Electrify America Shuts Down Chargers on Safety Issues, Restores Them This Week
    29 Jan 2019, 15:16 UTC ·
    by Daniel Patrascu
    Home > News > Industry

If you happen to own an electric car and have tried to juice it up over the weekend at an Electrify America charging station, then you might have found that at least some of the chargers were down. The reason for this was a problem with some of the cables feeding the chargers.

On Tuesday, Electrify America admitted it had to shut down an undisclosed number – the company uses the word “many” - of chargers, at the request of the cable's manufacturer, HUBER+SUHNER.

The supplier asked for the chargers to be shut down because of a problem discovered at a private test facility in Europe, in the liquid-cooled cable used to power Electrify’s CCS chargers (150 kW – 350 kW).

As per HUBER+SUHNER, a short-circuit in the plug of a high-power prototype charging system occurred at one of its sites in Germany, with no one being hurt in the incident. As a precaution, the decision was made to test all cables, including the ones installed in the U.S.

As per official data, there were such issues in 89 charging stations, all of which have remained operational to some degree, thanks to the use of additional CHAdeMO, 50kW CCS, or L2 chargers.

According to Electrify America, extensive testing was done throughout the weekend and on the first day of this week to see if the problem can occur elsewhere. After specialists found that “the cables have met all industry standards for use,” the charging stations operator decided to restore full capacity to the network.

Neither Electrify America nor HUBER+SUHNER revealed the cause of the short circuit, but did stress the synthetic, non-conductive coolant used in the cables can be ruled out.

“The tests confirmed the correct functionality of the system and proved that the series products supplied by HUBER+SUHNER meet the required standards without any restrictions, both individually and in the entire charging system,”the Swiss company said in a statement.

    PRESS RELEASE

    29 JANUARY 2019

Electrify America is restoring full capacity to its entire network after its high-powered charging cables cleared extensive testing from the cable manufacturer, HUBER+SUHNER.

Out of an abundance of caution and at the recommendation of its supplier, HUBER+SUHNER, a global supply leader of high-powered charging cable technology in the industry, Electrify America shut down many of the high-powered CCS chargers (150kW – 350kW) in its network on Friday while the company and HUBER+SUHNER investigated a potential safety issue.

The recommendation from HUBER+SUHNER came following an isolated event experienced at a private test facility in Europe with an early prototype liquid-cooled cable, similar to those installed on some of Electrify America’s charging dispensers. The shutdown recommendation was issued by HUBER+SUHNER to all customers using liquid-cooled cables worldwide.

“The safety of our customers is our highest priority. Extensive testing throughout the weekend and Monday showed that the cables have met all industry standards for use, and as a result, we are bringing our entire network back to full capacity,” said Giovanni Palazzo, president and CEO of Electrify America. “We thank our customers for their patience as we worked through this, as well as HUBER+SUHNER for making this their top priority and resolving the issue with speed and the highest levels of technical expertise and professionalism.”

Although many of the high-powered CCS chargers (150kW – 350kW) were shut down following notification of the potential safety issue, Electrify America was able to keep all 89 charging stations operational in some capacity, as all charging stations, in addition to the high-powered CCS chargers, have either CHAdeMO, 50kW CCS, or L2 chargers – none of which were affected.

    Buenas noticias entonces.

Porsche’s Charging Service Available In An Additional Five* European Countries
BY BRAD ANDERSON | POSTED ONFEBRUARY 25, 2019

Porsche has announced that it is expanding its charging service beyond Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Finland, where it was originally launched in May 2018.

This service has now become available in Great Britain, France, Spain and Norway (*Italy will follow soon).

Porsche’s Charging Service is a digital platform that finds the most suitable point for each vehicle. Instead of having to use different providers each time, users can register with Porsche and use its own payment service which comes at a pre-determined, fixed price for each market.

The free application and Porsche cars’ sat-nav then guide drivers to one of more than 49,000 charging points via Google Maps either on their smartphone (iOS and Android are supported) or their car’s infotainment app. Once there, they’ll be able to pay for charging their plug-in hybrid or EV through a QR code or with their Porsche ID Card they received by registering for the service, which serve as each customer’s identification.

Porsche has also introduced some new features, including updates on each charging point, information on the daily capacity of the charging station, and improved navigation.

Although the German automaker already offers PHEV versions of the Panamera and Cayenne, the timing of expanding this convenience occurs prior to the launch of the Taycan sports saloon, its first-ever battery-electric. This is expected to be joined by a number of new PHEVs and EVs, such as the Sport Turismo version of the Taycan, which was spied recently while testing.

More than 20,000 prospective Taycan buyers

Stuttgart/Geneva. The first purely electrically powered sports car from Porsche, the Taycan, is enjoying significant attention worldwide. The vehicle will not be presented to the public until September and its final design is not yet known; nonetheless, there are more than 20,000 people around the world with serious interest in buying one of their own, as the company has confirmed at the Geneva International Motor Show.
That is the number that has already registered to join a list of prospective buyers – and registration requires a down payment of €2,500 (in Europe).

The Porsche Taycan will have its debut in September, and market launch is scheduled to take place before the end of the year. The vehicle will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in considerably less than 3.5 seconds. It will have a range of more than 500 kilometers as measured in accordance with the NEDC. Moreover, it will be possible to add sufficient charge for a range of 100 kilometers in just four minutes (measured in accordance with the NEDC).

“The overwhelming interest in the Taycan shows us that our customers and fans are just as excited about the first Porsche electric athlete as we are – and we’ve therefore increased our production capacities,” confirms Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG. “The Taycan will be the most sporty and most technically advanced vehicle in its segment – a true Porsche.”

    Evolution meets revolution

Electromobility is changing the face of Porsche from the ground up. The eighth generation of the 911, however, remains an expression
of puristic sports car culture. How does a brand manage to remain true to itself by constantly reinventing itself?

    by Harald Willenbrock

    10 Bilder

It is a warm early afternoon, around 1 pm, in an inconspicuous hall in an industrial zone on the edge of Stuttgart. The windows of the building are completely covered up, the gates are carefully locked so that nobody can look in or come in without authorisation and nothing is leaked to the outside. Inside is a bewilderingly camouflaged test model of the Taycan. In 70 years of sports car history, it is the first purely battery-powered Porsche from Zuffenhausen. At this point, only rough outlines are known about; the trade journals are outdoing each other with more or less futuristic phantom images, but one thing is clear: the Taycan will enter a completely new dimension of the Porsche brand, which traditionally draws its power from high-performance combustion engines. A quantum leap. And, like any radical change, not without risk.

Right next to it, in the dark, the new Porsche 911 is parked – the classic which, since its première in 1963, has been engraved in the collective conciousness, whether as the absolute core, synonym or heart of the Porsche brand. A myth, with more than a million cars built, a phenomenon of contemporary, cultural, technology and design history, an automobile which is constantly new and yet so provokingly unchanged.

Two worlds collide – but they have a single origin. And a common goal: to define what Porsche is in a new way. What the brand stands for. And what it means to the two men who are now circling the vehicles, busy in discussion.

August Achleitner, a lean, rather boyish-looking 63-year-old, is more or less the brain of the 911. The automotive engineer has been head of the model line for 18 years; the eighth generation of the 911 will be his last. He has constantly preserved this inheritance by carefully developing it in line with the Porsche values of tradition and innovation: transition yes, radical change no. He has shaped the 911 as few others have done, although he would scarcely admit it. If you mention his role
to him, his answers quickly meander towards “my team” or “my people".

"The development of the 911 is always an evolution, never a revolution. At the same time, we have created each new generation in such a way that it will not devalue its predecessors. This explains why Porsches are so timeless."

    August Achleitner

Stefan Weckbach, a good 20 years younger than his counterpart, oversees one of the most demanding tasks which Porsche currently
has to offer. With a degree in business administration, he used to be head of the model line for the Boxster, and is now in the same function as the man behind the Taycan, a revolutionary vehicle concept with a completely new plant at the headquarters in Zuffenhausen. An additional 1,500 employees are being hired here and, in the course of the electric mobility campaign, around six billion euros will be invested. A future pact by the staff and plant management enables this feat of strength. Together, they are sending out a strong signal: the radical new Porsche – due to be presented at the end of 2019 – will be produced at the birthplace of the brand. In pointing the way to the future, it will return to its roots.

Weckbach’s mission is to prove that the effort is worth it, that the brand can, at the same time, renew itself and remain true to itself. “As the first fully electrical Porsche, the Taycan has to show that it is a fully-fledged member of the Porsche brand,” he says. “Of course, this is a great challenge – and a huge expectation, both internally and externally.”

Another reason expectations are so high is that the Taycan is to be nothing less than the pioneer of a whole series of partially or fully electrical Porsche models which will come onto the market in the next few years. According
to Porsche’s plans, more than 50 % of the new vehicles sold are to have an electrical drive as early as 2025 – which is practically the day after tomorrow. Whether this will really come about will very much depend on how the Taycan and, soon afterwards, its derivative, the Cross Turismo, a lifestyle-orientated variant with a higher utility, will prove themselves on the roads and on the market.

The brand must, therefore, shed its skin and remain true to itself at the same time. It has to keep its fans excited and simultaneously gain new customers who may have no idea today that they will decide to buy a Porsche tomorrow. The brand must do one thing with out losing track of the other. To put it in driving terms, it must keep in its lane and pull out at the same time – at high speed.

How can such a manoeuvre be carried out without being torn apart by centrifugal forces?

For August Achleitner, a substantial part of the answer lies in the new 911. With Weckbach, he is discussing the many large and small innovations which they have built into the latest 911, while at the same time protecting it against too great a desire to change. “Like the previous ones, this 911 does not dare to question its own legendary status,” in the words of an independent motor journalist. “No noise protection law in the world can silence the striking raspy voice of the artificially ventilated 3.0-litre six-cylinder flat engine; the typical coasting rattle has prevailed over the decades just as has the high-revving roistering; the combination of Sport Plus driving programme and activated sport exhaust bring the plaster crumbling from the ceiling of dilapidated tunnels when at full throttle and in low gear.”

In other words: despite all the innovations, the new 911 is the same as the old one too. Everything remains new. Is it, therefore,
the best 911 of all time? “Of course,” Achleitner replies without hesitation. “It is, just as every generation before it has been the best to date. But we have a lot of creative engineers, designers and other clever people on board, who will be sure to have ideas this time, aswell, about what could be done even better for the next generation.”

Most telling, however, is which of their numerous ideas Achleitner and his team did not implement in the course of the model over haul, which took place without market research meetings or product clinics and solely by trusting their instincts.

“Every now and then, people from outside say that we have to be careful not to lose our DNA,” says Achleitner. “I don’t see any danger of that.” That’s because the brand’s gene
pool is in the people who plan, think, build and live the Porsche. And like any genetic material, the formative features change a bit more with every evolutionary step. And, at the same time, remain true to themselves by permanently changing.

For some people, this transformation conjures up an almost magical effect. Wolfgang Porsche, for example, talks of the “magic of Porsche”, which must be retained. The grandson of Ferdinand Porsche and Chair of the Supervisory Board of Porsche AG reminds us that, today, not a single part of the 911 is identical with its counterpart from the 1960s – and yet, the essential core of the sports car icon has remained the same for more than 50 years. “That’s because it is not the technical details that constitute the identity of a 911,” he explains. “The decisive factor is that a thing remains true to its own essence. And I don’t know of any car which has remained so unchanged in its essence, despite all the technological and Zeitgeist-related changes, as the 911.”

Those moments at which the 911 did experience extensive innovations proved how flexible and, at the same time, how robust the Porsche brand philosophy actually is. The change from air to water cooling, for example, or the decision in favour of the turbo, were bound to cause gasps among hardcore fans. At least initially. Because, just as surely, each revised model also eclipsed the sales figures of its predecessors – thus disproving those doubters who had already thought the classic vehicle was going astray.

“Our people live and love Porsche,” says Achleitner. “For them, their work is more than just a job. This means that, in reality, they themselves are the most careful preservers of the Porsche gene.”

A different case but with a similar effect:
the newly introduced model lines Cayenne, Panamera or Macan also each ensured a greater acceptance of the established model lines. What seems paradoxical at first glance is, at second glance, proof that the “preservers of the Porsche gene”, as August Achleitner calls them, very clearly possess some skill in sustaining the core of their brand by constantly renewing both its substance and its manifestations. Another example of this is
 the Taycan.

"We have a very special team at Porsche who are, themselves, the greatest fans of our vehicles. They know exactly what is right and will bring us forward."

    Stefan Weckbach

If you believe Stefan Weckbach, the newest addition to the Porsche family stands neither for radical disruption nor for a new beginning. Rather, the first fully electrical Porsche is simply “the next logical step”: not simply another electrified premium vehicle, but undoubtedly a Porsche, even if it will be more digital, and of course more electric, than any Porsche before it.

Of course, there are certainly some sporty e-cars on the market which started off accelerating impressively, only to reach their performance limitations, says Weckbach. “That wouldn’t be enough for us. A Porsche must offer reproducible performance, which means that it has to offer the highest performance at a constant level.”

Weckbach tells of how his developer colleagues are working under pressure to adjust many apparently smaller, some larger and, above all, decisive last screws in order to achieve this goal with their usual precision. On intelligent cooling systems, for example, on the elements of the innovative 800-volt technology and many other things with which they are installing maximum performance, large range, short charging cycles and Porsche’s typical driving dynamics into the Taycan. The aspiration of never standing still and never being content with what has been achieved, but rather of leading the field with extraordinary achievements, even if this often demands an exceptional commitment: this, too, is typical of Porsche.

For example, the decision to equip a Porsche with a purely electrical drive after seven decades of the combustion engine did not provoke the slightest resistance within the company, says Achleitner. “On the contrary, a self-confident attitude prevailed: let’s show them that we, too, can make a fully electrical sports car. Something that has never existed before – just as when we made the first sporty SUV a few years ago with the Porsche Cayenne.”

To focus primarily on the drive type, in Achleitner’s opinion, falls short in any case.
To be more precise, it snags, so to speak,
in the engine compartment. For Porsche, the drive system is only a part of the whole. And very different things are decisive for this whole. Achleitner then tells of how he got behind
the wheel of one of the first Taycan prototypes for the first time. How he adjusted the seat and the steering column, scrutinised the digital dashboard and felt the “basic ergonomics”
of the vehicle. How he then closed his eyes and thought: “It fits! A genuine Porsche.”

But what is a genuine Porsche, exactly?
What can, may, or must submit to evolutionary change? Which of the brand’s features are unchangeable?

There is the sporty flyline, the flared hip, the contour of the windows, the four-point daytime driving lights and the slender head on broad shoulders: all of these mean that a Porsche is already identified long before its engine sound can be heard. For Stefan Weckbach, other parameters apart from this are also characteristic of Porsche: driving dynamics, emotion, quality and performance, for example. “What characterises a purebred Porsche is the fact that it always actively involves its driver,” Achleitner elaborates. “And this philosophy is contained in the Taycan, just as much as in the 911. The adjustment period from one vehicle to the next takes a few minutes. If even that.”

Seen in this way, both Porsche models are pretty much built along the same ideal line with which the brand is being continued. Each stands for an autonomous, unmistakeable personality. And yet they are obviously similar in many essential respects.

In this sense, they resemble the two model line heads, who are now slowly strolling towards the hall exit. Even though they belong to different generations, the two men have a surprising amount in common. Both spend as much time as they can on two wheels in their spare time: Achleitner also on a motorbike on occasion, and Weckbach always in the saddle of his mountain bike. They both work in the development centre at Weissach, only a single floor apart, and exchange views whenever necessary, quickly and at the drop of a hat.

Weckbach tells how, very soon after he had started working for Porsche, he acquired a 997 Carrera S as a leasing vehicle. How, when he had to return the car with great regret, his father bought it for him. “The best thing is that the car is still standing in his garage.”

Achleitner’s Porsche initiation happened even longer ago, in his youth. At that time, the programme Blickpunkt Sport on Bavarian Television was accompanying the racing driver Walter Röhrl in his preparation for the 24 Hours of Le Mans: “on the Porsche test track in Weissach,” as Achleitner recalls. The images of the dynamic car and its driver never left him after that. Born in Munich and the son of a BMW head of department, this finally led to him to make his way to Stuttgart and Porsche as a young automotive engineer in the 1980s.

As a developer, he then experienced how the Porsche product family developed in a way that many people would never have thought possible. How, among others, an SUV, a Gran Turismo and a compact SUV supplemented the family and extended its fan community. How the brand caught on not in spite of, but because of its ability to transform.

Achleitner’s heart is still set on the 911 after all this time: “This car that is really irrational and yet enormously suitable for everyday use,” as he calls it. Therefore, there will always be a 911 parked in his garage. When the two men finally leave the hall and go to their vehicles, he adds: “But in future, I could also imagine owning a Taycan.”

From a computer simulation via the test bench to the road

Testing of the new Porsche Taycan has entered the final stage
Stuttgart. Porsche’s first purely electrically driven sports car, the Taycan, is currently completing its final test drives before it enters series production. In Scandinavia, just a few kilometres away from the Arctic Circle, it is proving its potential in terms of driving dynamics on snow and ice. At the same time, Porsche engineers are taking advantage of the summer in the Southern Hemisphere. In South Africa, they are conducting performance tests, as well as final adjustments in terms of continuous performance and reproducibility. In Dubai they are carrying out hot-climate endurance runs and testing battery charging under extreme conditions. The 30 countries across the globe in which these comprehensive tests are being carried out have temperatures that range from minus 35 to plus 50 degree Celsius.

“After carrying out computer simulations and comprehensive bench tests early on, we have now reached the final phase of this demanding testing programme,” underlines the vice president of the model line, Stefan Weckbach: “Before the Taycan is launched on the market at the end of the year, we will have covered approximately six million kilometres across the globe. We are already very happy with the current status of the vehicles. The Taycan is going to be a true Porsche.”

Of course, at Porsche, electric cars have to undergo the same rigorous testing programme as sport cars with combustion engines. In addition to displaying superior performance, this always includes proving unrestricted suitability for everyday use in all climate conditions. Particularly demanding features such as charging the battery or temperature control of the drive train and the interior under extreme conditions are additional aspects in the battery-powered models. Other typical Porsche development targets include circuit performance, multiple accelerations, as well as a range suitable for everyday use.

The most significant facts from the Taycan testing phase:Overall distance covered: Approximately six million kilometres, of which two million were endurance run kilometres
Countries: A total of 30, including the USA, China, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Finland
Temperatures: From minus 35 to plus 50 degree Celsius
Air humidity: From 20 to 100 per cent
Altitude: From 85 metres below to 3,000 metres above sea level
Charging cycles: Over 100,000 using various charging technologies across the globe
Development team: Around 1,000 test drivers, technicians and engineers

Virtual drive through “The Green Hell”
Test experts were able to build upon the comprehensive findings from the digital testing stage using digital prototypes. At present, computers are used to design the body, drive, chassis, electronics and overall vehicle of a new model and to simulate their functions – which includes how they work together. In total, the virtual prototypes of the Taycan have completed more than ten million digital kilometres.

This meant that development engineers started driving a Taycan around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a driving simulator at an early stage, so that they could test and evaluate its circuit performance. During this process, they focused on the electrical energy management, which plays an important role in achieving a sub-eight-minute lap time on the 20.6-kilometre (timed distance) Nordschleife. Already more than 20,000 prospective buyers The Porsche Taycan will be introduced in September and will be launched onto the market at the end of the year. Across the globe, there are already more than 20,000 serious prospective buyers. The potential customers have put their names down on an option programme list and made a down payment.

The Taycan accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in significantly less than 3.5 seconds. It has a range of more than 500 kilometres (according to the NEDC). The 800-V architecture in the vehicle guarantees that the lithium-ion battery can be recharged in just four minutes, providing enough energy to drive 100 kilometres (according to NEDC).

Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo Shows Up on Nurburgring, 7:30 Lap Time Rumored
    29 Mar 2019, 7:27 UTC ·

Take a good look at the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo in the spyshot gallery above, as we won't get to see too many of these. That's because we should be about six months away from the introduction of the first electric Zuffenhausen machine.

Of course, the Taycan will debut in five-door coupe form, if we might use that term, but the German automotive producer has already confirmed the wagon we see here will follow. Now, where will the Taycan (Sport Turismo) sit within the Porsche lineup?
Well, you can think of the newcomer as a slightly smaller Panamera. However, make sure to add two main aspects.

First of all, the newcomer will ride on a dedicated EV platform, which houses the battery pack in its floor as it should.

Dubbed J1, this modular platform will also serve other models in the VW Group. And while the Audi e-tron GT is a certainty, the rumor mill goes as far as talking about a Lamborghini Estoque Concept-like production model that would mark the return of front-engined Raging Bull GTs, albeit with an electric twist.

Secondly, the Taycan's electric power should bring one electric motor for each axle. And while the Mission E concept that prefigurated the car came with 605 hp, you can expect the usual Porsche range with at least two or three output options and even an RWD-only model (we wouldn't hold our breath for this one, though). Numbers? The max output of the various versions should sit between 400 and 700 ponies.

In terms of performance, Porsche has mentioned a 0 to 60 mph time of under 3.5 seconds and a sub-8 Nurburgring lap time. However, we're expecting spicier real-world performance, since the company is known for its conservative estimates. After all, the ex-gen Cayenne Turbo S needed 8 mins to blitz the Green Hell.

And since the current Panamera Turbo managed to lap the Ring in 7:38 back in 2016, a record at the time, we think a 7:30 estimate for the Taycan is reasonable.

As for the battery pack, there will once again be multiple options and we can expect these to range between 80 and 100 kWh. Keep in mind that the newcomer will feature an 800V system, whose main asset involves reduced charging times.

For instance, you'll get 250 miles of charging in just 15 minutes. Of course, when you're out on the road, that involves using one of the 500 Porsche chargers that will be installed in the US for the launch of the vehicle.

Porsche has let it slip that the production models will be close to the concept cars in terms of appearance. And while we're not really sure what to make of the ride height reduction displayed by Taycan Sport Turismo prototypes (the Mission E Cross Turismo was a lifted wagon, while the test cars show normal ground clearance), we'll return with more info as soon as this is available.

    Animo Porsche, poco a poco.
