is unclear that this would go anywhere, but even considered as an "object d`art" the scheel seat is a marvel itself

i remember a similar story with my Petri steering wheel back in Berlin, but then i had no coupe to rest it in, so a similar reflection was rattling my brain in the train that was bringing me to Templehof, there in a not very cool plastic bag a lovely Petri was laying, and i was making educated guesses of how the faces of my friends would look like if I finally had to hang it in the garage Wall...

this might have the same fate, or not, who knows...

i can´t drive slowly, simply i can´t, moreover now that i feel that the suspensión is just right, ...well it is not a secret that stock seats are not the best for curvy roads, either my ass is too small, or the seat is too wide,...

, so why do not give a try to scheels,...
...if only they were not so expensive,...

but if there is a will...

    so here it is:

my absolute concern was to have perfect black vynil, i have noticed that unless you deal with gerrit the re-upholsery of these seats will not be satisfactory

and the second point was that i should be able to do all the rest of the job myself

    ...at least, i will try...

    :)

just before going to the internals (crappy foam) and central cloth

    I started with simple things:

    rusted rails

it is not easy to remove the fixing bar, as it is in tensión with a peculiar spring that must be removed:

    keep record of the position

now i feel the urge of defining a structure that adapts the seat frame to the body of the e9

    lets see:

tilting the seat was not an option,...

try to find a nice angle facing backwards

will have a friend welding the bits during this week,...

following @bfeng advise i lowered the frame and thus the support for rails introducing the tubes into the plates

    upholstery,

    start disassemble:

    must remove odd clamps

look how peculiar are the sections of cloth fixed to the elastic straps, using the same type of clamps every time
    [IMG]

the two laterals of the seat are fixed front to rear using two Steel wires fixed together by the clamps
    [IMG]

must renew the straps using new ones
    [IMG]

i will treat the frame against rust, using a curative procedure, and probably repaint in black afterwards
    [IMG]

see how the two wires i mentioned are tightened along the seam lines

lets go to the reinforcements, final position is 33,5 cm
    [IMG]

i will use two type of straps, the Green one is stronger (this will go on the bottom seat)
i will have to make them slightly smaller to pretensión them, so after some trials i decided to sew them at 30cm

how to put them in place, these are the back ones, made at 35cm for a total width of 38cm

Como he comentado si lo consideras los dejo anclados, lo que pasa es que mientras estén anclados no se pueden editar para añadir cosas nuevas.

    thank you Markos,

    will start the reassembly,

first i have to sew the central cloth to the vinyl, it is a very delicate task, and i have no room for puting the pieces into the machine

adhesive tape and marks for reference

    done

    seems good

now time for the hog ring plyers that John found for me in London (thank you so much), this is a well recognised US brand in the uphostery world, curved plyers make the trick, very simple but efective

they are expensive but no way to Work in a seat without them,

finished vinyl surface tight as a drum

done the bottom part, the vinyl has two Steel wires that i use to retain the rings

    check foams in

a general view ready for a next step

    so, must finish this,

i have to cut the back foam, it is not what i was supposed to do, but i found no other way,

see the 3 and 3 BIS, a curious glueing to make the shape:

start on top, introduce foam "1" and start with hog rings

    the mighty SS

    2

invented this to fix the bottom front, add a plastic piece to clamp the hog rings there

put the top caps and headrest

    and it is done:

    a scheel:

just to complete the documentation of the seat restoration i am adding the frame details:

found this tiny poker card inside the seat, so i am puting it again inside the upholstery so a next owner can find it inside again and ask the same question: WTH ? :)

esto os va a gustar, la tapa,

once strongly fixed is time to think about the cover,...but, who spoke about the "Mcgiverness..." ?

eeerrrrrrr what do we have around here ? oh yes, cardboard...what else ?

yes, i am keeping the lever, this seat should be easily swapped

you should get one of these, they are the best posible way of puting out a fire, (believe me i have a Msc. in F.S.E.)
