EXCLUSIVE: BMW M3 Touring might finally come to market

August 9, 2020
BMW-M3-Touring-photoshop-00.jpg

I recently, rather snarkily, wrote these words: “We’ve heard that some people in high places within the ranks of BMW are contemplating whether or not they should considering even thinking about an M3 Touring. That’s about as close as we’re ever going to get to an M3.” However, it very well may be time for me to eat a hefty helping of crow, rather happily I might add, as it turns out that a BMW M3 Touring might finally come to market.

Nothing is officially announced, at least just yet, but a trusted source says that BMW M3 Touring has been greenlit and could come to market after 2023. This is monumental news for BMW fans, as the M3 Touring has been something that every BMW enthusiast has coveted.

Despite the near-constant demand from enthusiasts, BMW has never before made an M3 Touring and has said repeatedly over the years that it has no real plan to do so. Apparently, someone inside of BMW is very persuasive because they’ve allegedly convinced the board to finally greenlight the project.

We don’t have any official confirmation, nor has there been any official statement given by anyone from BMW. However, our source is trustworthy and there’s a real possibility this is true. We very well may finally get the BMW M3 Touring we’ve always wanted.

There also couldn’t be a better time for BMW to release an M3 wagon. This new generation of M3 is the most wagon-ready M3 of all time, thanks to its optional all-wheel drive and more high-tech nature. More than ever, the M3 is a fantastic everyday driver, so giving it some extra cargo space makes perfect sense.

Another good reason to finally launch a wagon, if this is true, is the fact that it will likely distract from all of the negative publicity surrounding the M3’s new grille. And in the right ways. BMW offering an M3 wagon would allow fans to easily forgive that new mug.

If this is true, BMW has finally answered the demands of its customers and will finally bring them the car they’ve been begging for. Being that we don’t even have any official confirmation, we of course don’t have any official info on its trim or equipment levels.

So we don’t know which powertrains/drivetrains will be available on the BMW M3 Touring, if it does indeed come to market. However, given what’s available on the sedan, there’s a possibility that you will be able to buy a rear-wheel drive, manual, BMW M3 wagon in the near future… Sorry, I’m back. I fainted for a moment.

BMW M3 Touring Reportedly Approved, Could Arrive After 2023

AUGUST 10, 2020

2020-BMW-3-Series-Touring.webp

BMW will slap the M logo on just about anything, but the 3-Series Touring has been a notable exception.

That’s pretty perplexing when you consider Audi offers the RS4 Avant and Mercedes-AMG sells the C63 Estate.

However, that could finally be changing as BMW Blog is reporting a high-performance wagon could be in the works. While nothing is official, a “trusted source” has told them an M3 Touring has been green-lighted and “could come to market after 2023.”

The report should be taken with a grain of salt, but it will probably make a number of fans happy. Of course, even if the rumors are true, the chances of seeing it in the United States are slim to none as the company no longer offers wagons in America.

That being said, the model would presumably follow in the footsteps of the M3 and M4. As a result, the wagon would likely have a massive grille, sportier bumpers and a four-tailpipe exhaust system.

The M3 and M4 will be unveiled in September and equipped with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine sourced from the X3 M and X4 M. In base form, it produces 473 hp (352 kW / 480 PS) and 442 lb-ft (598 Nm) of torque. Customers will also be able to opt for a Competition variant which has 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS) and the same amount of torque as the base model.

The standard model will be offered with a six-speed manual, while the Competition variant has an eight-speed automatic. The cars will also be offered with rear- and all-wheel drive.

Even if the M3 Touring does come to market, there’s no guarantee the wagon will have as many powertrain options as the sedan, coupe and convertible.

The BMW M3 Touring (BMW M3 Sports Wagon) has officially been confirmed. This is not a drill. The BMW M3 Touring has officially been confirmed. For the first time in history, BMW will be developing the long-roof M3 wagon that fans have been craving for decades. While it might be a bit late, it’s certainly better than never.

A few days ago, we learned that the BMW M3 Touring was likely greenlit by the brass at BMW. However, it wasn’t officially confirmed. Today, the Bavarians themselves are claiming it publicly, in a recent press release, and it’s officially on its way. Aside from that, no other official info has been given.

While it’s not hard to figure out that the specs will almost certainly be the same, in terms of power and performance, as the M3 sedan, it will be interesting to see what sort of packaging BMW offers. For example, we know the M3 will come in two flavors — regular and Competition — and there will be choices of drivetrain for both — rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

There will also be two choices of transmission for rear-wheel drive regular models, offering both a six-speed manual and an eight-speed auto. So it will be interesting to see if the BMW M3 Touring gets the full gamut of options or is limited to just one.

It wouldn’t surprise us if the M3 Touring is only offered with all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission but, at least for now, there’s hope that we’ll be able to get a rear-wheel drive, manual M3 wagon. Excuse me while I wipe the drool from me keyboard…

There’s no official release date but in BMW’s press release there’s talk about a two-year development cycle. We don’t know exactly when this development cycle began but the press release also stated that the BMW M3 Touring is in its “early stages” of development.

So it’s likely we’ll see the M3 Touring on the road between 2022-2023. By that time, the M3 will be readying its mid-cycle LCI facelift, so it’s possible that BMW times the M3 Touring’s release accordingly and that it only comes as a facelifted model.

According to BMW, test and development mules will begin showing their camouflaged faces soon enough and when they do, it will mean that BMW has reached a critical step in the maturation of the car’s development. It’s also stated in the press release that we’ll be seeing the BMW M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe in September, with an M4 Convertible coming at a later date.

BMW M3 Touring confirmado oficialmente: finalmente llega

A New Dimension. The First BMW M3 Touring.

bmw-m3-touring-g81-stage-teaser.jpg.asset.1597233807900.jpg

BMW M and Markus Flasch have officially confirmed the existence of the first ever M3 Touring.

12. Aug 2020

Never say never: here is an exclusive first look at a completely new model from BMW M – the BMW M3 Touring. Ahead of the world premiere of the new BMW M3 Sedan and the new M4 Coupé, BMW M is taking its range to the next dimension. The combination of M specific high performance, an increase in available interior space and the intelligent functionality of a Touring model make the BMW M3 G81 a very special vehicle.

5 POWERFUL FACTS:
  1. The first ever BMW M3 Touring
  2. 6-Cylinder M TwinPower turbo engine
  3. Five doors and a highly variable luggage compartment
  4. M Power in a Touring model
  5. Test drives start in August 2020

M TYPICAL APPEARANCE.
A 6-cylinder M TwinPower turbo engine beneath the bonnet has been confirmed, while the widened axles, conspicuously large front air intakes and four exhaust tailpipes at the rear leave little doubt that the iconic M DNA will be clear for all to see, even with the car’s new body design. One thing is already certain: the BMW M3 Touring is set to take the combination of racing-oriented performance and everyday practicality to the extreme.

INTENSIVE TESTING STARTS NOW.
The extensive development process that the new BMW M3 Touring will go through over the next two years is proof that it is first and foremost an M3. The first drives of its intensive testing and tuning programme, which take place on the Nürburgring's Nordschleife, will start in the next few days. They are the prelude to the creation of a premium mid-range class estate car that has never before provided so much driving fun and precision, nor offered more functional utility in a thoroughbred sports car.
