The Ferrari Roma Is Just As Fast As A McLaren 570S In A Straight Line

Hot on the heels of the first Ferrari Roma reviews being published online, we’ve stumbled across this video that showcases just how quick Maranello’s latest grand tourer is.


Powering the Roma is a 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that delivers 612 hp and 560 lb-ft (760 Nm) of torque and is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission sending power to the rear wheels. While the version of this engine that powers the F8 Tributo has roughly 100 hp more, that doesn’t mean the Roma is slow – far from it, actually.

According to Ferrari, the Roma requires just 3.4 seconds to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) and, in this video, we discover that it only needs about 8.5 seconds to hit 124 mph (200 km/h). Such a figure means it accelerates just as rapidly as the lighter (and mid-engined) McLaren 570S, which is very impressive for a GT that is chasing after different buyers than the 570S. Given enough room, Ferrari claims the Roma can exceed 199 mph (320 km/h), so it doesn’t lack in that department either.

Of course, it is not just straight-line performance that makes the Roma impressive. Recent reviews have revealed that it is much better to drive than the Portofino and offers agile and enjoyable handling characteristics. Moreover, the Roma has a striking and unique appearance and looks a lot different than any other modern Ferrari.

Henry lo prueba por carretera y circuito, lo que más le gusta las prestaciones y la estética exterior, lo que menos el sonido, el interior con el ipad de pegote y la máldita tecnología con lo bien que funcionan los botones, ruedas y palancas , falla la pantalla táctil y el control de voz le pone de los nervios, se activa diciendo ciao ferrari, pero cada vez que nombra Ferrari en la prueba se activa

 

Para mi después de Porsche, Ferrrari sin duda! mira que saben hacer coches bonitos!!! son coches con alma, mas allá de las prestaciones que tengan,... pena ser pobre.

Por el mismo precio me compro antes el Portofino M, coupé y cabrio a la vez,sin pestañear.

 

Pero sin un atisbo de duda. Es que el Portofino es de lo mejor de Ferrari en cuanto a diseño en los últimos años. Y eso que este Roma me parece bonito, pero hay cosas que no me acaban de...

 

A nadie le importa lo que diga un probador que van a ver 4 talibanes que ni si quiera se lo pueden comprar. La realidad es que las pantallas y las luces de colores venden, y mucho.

 

El Portifino es una verdadera preciosidad!!!

The Ferrari Roma isn't *all* new, as it does share a basic architecture with the Portofino, but it's new enough that as a driver, it feels like a totally new product. It's got the twin-turbo V8 mounted up front, but behind the front axle, for proper mid-engined handling. The fact that it's got long-tubes for the exhaust gives it a bass note you don't get with the F8 Trubito - most welcome. And it's got a very comfortable and all-new interior that we kinda love, and kinda hate. Ultimately, it's a very strong contender in the high-end daily driver category occupied by the Bentley Continental and Mercedes-AMG GT ranges.

The Roma is a sign that things are changing at Ferrari.
For the last decade or so, Ferrari's sports cars have gotten more and more aggressive in looks — that's the opposite of the cars that Enzo Ferrari loved: comfortable, drivable GTs.

In this episode, we examine the meaning behind the Gran Turismo — and how it's an obsolete term today.
But also how the Roma, more so than the Ferrari California upon which it's based, is a return to the idea of an everyday Ferrari.
It has adaptive cruise control, free scheduled maintenance, and a back seat.
And while it has a rear spoiler, it has no button to make it go up and down — perhaps a way of saying, "leave those showoff antics to the Lamborghini owners."
It is a modern Ferrari, after all, so it has a twin-turbocharged flat-plane-crank V-8; light and incredibly precise electric power steering; an instant-shifting 8-speed dual-clutch automatic; and suspension tuning that makes it feel as though it weighs just 2500 lb.
And it's elegant.
And beautiful.
It is, alas, a real Ferrari.

Cuando pensamos en coches italianos, tendemos a pensar en elegancia y rendimiento. Sin embargo, durante varios años Ferrari se ha centrado en esto último. Jason Cammisa, de Hagerty, sostiene que la nueva Roma vuelve a equilibrar la balanza.

Not Focusing On Performance And Aggression Might Be The Ferrari Roma’s Best Feature

When we think of Italian cars, we tend to think of elegance and performance. For a number of years, though, Ferrari has focused on the latter. Hagerty’s Jason Cammisa argues that the new Roma balances the scales again.

Although there’s no denying that cars like the Enzo are stunning performers, you wouldn’t exactly call them elegant. Shapes determined by aerodynamics, aesthetics designed for aggression, and proportions meant to intimidate mean that Ferraris have moved away from the elegance that once defined them.

The Roma, on the other hand, is pretty. Its grille is very subdued and does away with vents or aggressive motorsports-inspired slashes on its body. Its name is a reference, not to a racetrack, but to the Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn-filled Rome of the Dolce Vita era.

With no pretensions of being something like a hardcore track-devouring machine nor any references to motorsport, it can go about the business of being a grand tourer. As Cammisa points out, that’s a move that could remind you of a shrewd dichotomy from Ferrari’s golden age.

Back in the ’50s and ’60s, Ferrari made two kinds of cars. Sports cars that were designed for racing and grand tourers that were designed to drive comfortably. Somewhere along the line, Ferrari started obsessing over performance – maybe a little too much.

Now, though, it seems that Maranello has become a little less self-conscious. To have the confidence to be pretty and fast, but not the fastest, might just be what the doctor ordered for Ferrari that had run the risk of becoming a company with a one-track mind.
