Segundo teaser de Lexus. La firma nipona ha presentado un nuevo adelanto relacionado con el nuevo «F Sport» que está preparando. Un adelanto tan concreto que ha terminado por desvelar qué modelo deportivo es el que se esconde detrás. Por ahora, solamente uno frente a los varios que se especulaban.

Ojo a este segundo teaser que la marca japonesa de lujo ha presentado, un avance tan preciso que ha terminado por desvelar qué modelo es el que se esconde detrás de esta imagen, y del anuncio de una nueva versión «F Sport». Un acabado deportivo más, pero que no estará a la altura de un «F» más radical como nos esperábamos de Lexus.

Esta estrategia ya quedó confirmada hace tan solo unos días con el primer anticipo, en el que se podía leer el nombre del acabado sobre la tapa de carbono del motor. Un sello conocido en algunos modelos de la marca, pero no en todos, lo que lleva a pensar en una versión deportiva descafeinada, sin radicalismos. El segundo teaser muestra el diseño de la ventanilla trasera fija, y solamente coincide con un modelo de la gama: el Lexus IS.

La diferencia con las actuales versiones a la venta es que el borde de la superficie acristalada se presente en negro, un detalle que en todos los fabricantes se presenta en este acabado dando una apariencia especialmente elegante y también deportiva. Se van resolviendo misterios, por tanto, si bien las informaciones originales apuntadas por una revista japonesa indicaban que la estrategia de Lexus pasaba por añadir estas siglas a más modelos de la oferta, entre ellos los lujosos LC y LS.

En el caso del Lexus IS Sport, a la estética más agresiva también se sumarán algunas mejoras en el chasis y un potente motor de gasolina atmosférico V8 de 5.0 litros con una potencia máxima en torno a los 470 CV. Una arquitectura, cilindrada y tipo de propulsión que dejará muy descolgado al japonés de los homólogos europeos, al menos en términos de eficiencia, que han apostado por sistemas híbridos, motores de seis cilindros, incluso de cuatro cilindros híbridos enchufables.

Por ahora se desconoce la fecha de presentación, pero sí la comercialización aproximada. En torno a otoño de 2021 deben llegar aunque solo se venderán en Estados Unidos, Canadá y Japón, por lo que queda tiempo para que la marca lance una nueva versión deportiva en el coupé.

 

Pues no, parece que ni viene a Europa... otro más

2022 Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance Brings Naturally Aspirated, 472 HP V8 Thrills To America

naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 under the hood of its smallest (North American) sedan and calling it the IS 500 F Sport Performance. Needless to say, this mechanical set-up is a dying breed in the age of smaller, force-fed or even electrified engines, and if anything, Lexus deserves our praise for giving it what could very well turn out to be a last hurrah.

Five Liters Of Fury

So strained is the IS to contain the engine’s heft that the hood has been raised two inches to accommodate it. Despite making 160 more horses than the V6, though, the 3,891-pound IS 500 weighs just 143 lbs more than the IS 350.

The engine, which you may recognize from the RC F, makes 472 HP at 7,100 rpm and 395 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 rpm. That’s around about the same amount as the base M3, which gets 473 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque out of its twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline 6. The Competition model can be ordered with more than 500 hp, though.



That power is sent to the wheels through the same 8-speed automatic transmission as the less-powerful RWD members of the IS lineup. It’s all good enough to get the car from 0-60 in just 4.5 seconds or 0.4 seconds slower than the base M3 and two tenths slower than the RC F.

The point, though, isn’t just to take on the competition on the spec sheet. Chief Engineer Naoki Kobayashi’s mission was apparently to deliver more balance, refinement, and confidence than ever before.

More Than Just Muscle



As a result, the engine’s power reaches the rear wheels through a Torsen limited-slip differential that should help the IS 500 behave itself through the corners. Lexus also turned to Yamaha for the rear damper and promises that it will increase agility, low-speed comfort, and high-speed stability.

Furthermore, it will come standard with F Sport’s Dynamic Handling Package. That means adaptive variable suspension and steering designed specifically for linearity. Brake response was also one of Lexus’s priorities.

Helping slow things down are 14-inch two-piece aluminum disc brakes up front and 12.7-inch discs in the back. And to ensure that they perform as well as possible for as long as possible despite the added weight and power, Lexus has improved brake cooling over the IS 350 through aerodynamic optimization.

Flying Down The Road Looking Fly



The wheels will be surrounded by 19-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels supplied by Enkei. These, says Lexus, are 1 pound lighter at the front and 2 lbs lighter at the rear than the IS 350 F Sport’s wheels.

Speaking of things of which there are four, Lexus has chosen to highlight its quad-exhaust tips with a revised lower rear diffusor. A rear lip spoiler, dark chrome window tinting, and lengthened front and rear bumpers help round out the IS 500’s newer, meaner look.

Big Tech To Go With A Big Engine



Inside, meanwhile, occupants are greeted by F Sport Performance badging on the heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel and door sill scuff plates. Upon turning the car on, the driver is treated to an IS 500-exclusive startup animation in the instrument cluster.

Drivers will also be able to select between a number of drive modes. These include Sport S and Sport S+, which provide the most extreme engine and transmission mapping while adjusting the steering assist and damping force to deliver the sportiest driving experience possible.

If those don’t quite do it for you, you can create your own drive modes. Lexus’s system can adjust things like the powertrain (Normal/Eco/Power), the chassis (Normal/Sport), and the air conditioner (Normal/Eco).



To help keep you safe when you aren’t misbehaving, Lexus has also been sure to add its Safety System+ to the IS 500. The system uses radar and cameras to offer warnings before an imminent collision, automatic emergency braking when things get worse than imminent, and functions to warn you about cyclists and pedestrians.

In fact, the new car’s improved cameras and radar system give the system more range and increase its effectiveness.

On the more comfort-oriented side of the scale, the IS 500 can help keep you in your lane with Steering Assist and help you follow the car ahead in stop-and-go traffic with All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.

How Soon Is Now?

Designed exclusively for the North American market, the IS 500 is the first model in Lexus’s over-the-top F Sport Performance lineup and will get badging to reflect that. Pricing, options, and color choices have not been revealed yet. However, Lexus plans to make that information available closer to the IS 500 F Sport Performance’s arrival at dealerships this fall.

Lexus es uno de los últimos fabricantes de automóviles que todavía se aferra a los motores V8 de aspiración natural. Estamos agradecidos. Pasé una semana con el LC500 Convertible hace unos meses y su ruido de V8 me llevó a afirmar que tenía el V8 con mejor sonido del mercado, una afirmación que mantengo hasta el día de hoy. Entonces, el hecho de que el brazo de lujo de Toyota va a colocar un V8 similar en el compartimiento del motor de un Lexus IS500 del tamaño de la Serie 3 es muy emocionante.


El V8 de 5.0 litros de respiración libre que impulsará el Lexus IS500 generará 472 caballos de fuerza y 395 libras-pie de torque, lo que le da niveles de potencia M3. Lexus IS500 Brings V8 Power to the 3 Series Segment

Lexus is one of the last automakers to still hang on to naturally-aspirated V8s. We’re grateful. I spent a week with the LC500 Convertible a few months back and its V8 noise led me to claim that it had the best sounding V8 on the market, a claim I stand by to this day. So the fact that Toyota’s luxury arm is going to be stuffing a similar V8 into the engine bay of a 3 Series-sized Lexus IS500 is very exciting.



The 5.0 liter free-breathing V8 that will power the Lexus IS500 will make 472 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque, giving it M3-levels of power. However, since the IS500 won’t be a proper Lexus “F” performance car, it’s likely going to have pricing more similar to that of the BMW M340i, which would give the Lexus a large power advantage. Though, it won’t have the performance to take the M340i down, as Lexus is claiming a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds. We’ve seen the M340i break into the three-second range. The Lexus will likely be quicker than claimed, though, so we’ll see.


As always, the IS500 will use an eight-speed automatic, rear-wheel drive and a limited-slip diff at the rear. Those are all things you can get in the BMW M340i as well, but the Bimmer also comes with optional all-wheel drive, whereas the Lexus does not.

However, the Lexus IS500 will have something the M340i does not — boatloads of character. Those who haven’t used Lexus’ atmospheric V8 simply do not understand just how joyful it is to drive. During my LC500 drive, I couldn’t have cared less about performance figures or if any cars around me were faster. My car made the better noise by far and had an engine that was far more enjoyable to use, so I was having more fun. I can’t even imagine what that engine will be like in a small sedan.

I haven’t drive the new Lexus IS yet, to see how it stacks up against the 3 Series but I’m going to have to rectify that now. The IS500 is going to pack an absolutely stellar engine and we applaud Lexus for using it yet again. We thought the LC500 would be the engine’s last dance but apparently the Japanese luxury brand isn’t done with it yet and every car enthusiasts should be excited about that.

 

Yo probe el IS-F en su día y sonaba bien, corría bastante pero no me gusto mucho porque sin darme cuenta llegaba al corte constantemente. La verdad es que no subía nada de vueltas para ser un deportivo atmosférico en condiciones

 

Entiendo que no se vende en Europa porque no cumple ninguna de nuestras maravillosas normativas de seguridad ante atropellos con esa "boca", no?
Demasiado "bocachanclas" los Lexus de los últimos años para mi gusto.

Y estoy contigo @*NANO* , tiene pinta que se han quedado un poco atrás. O los europeos tenemos demasiada prisa, no sé qué es peor.
Ese interior, en líneas generales, parece de los años 80. Si hasta lleva lector de CD! (o DVD)

Ojo, que no digo que sea peor, es más, prefiero esto que las naves espaciales tan de moda en el viejo continente.
Y sobre todo con ese V8 bajo el capó.

 

Cada vez que lo veo me gusta más. Para mi gusto le falta una estética más macarra. Y si le meten un turbo para acercarse a los 600 cv perfecto jaja!
Entre éste y el Ghibli Trofeo tendría dudas. Creo que finalmente cogería el italiano.
