How fast is the new $50k Nissan Z? — New Z vs Supra vs Mustang Mach-1 — Cammisa's Drag Race Replay

The 2023 Nissan Z has a 400-hp twin-turbo V-6. It's roughly the same price as the Ford Mustang GT 5.0 and Toyota Supra, so let's answer the $50,000 question: Which one makes it through the quarter-mile first?
The 2023 Z Sport starts at $41,015 (with destination) but this is the $51,015 Z Performance, which comes with wider tires and a limited-slip differential. It's likely that the base car will be slower due to the rear-wheel traction differential.
For the first race, with Jason Cammisa's now-iconic frozen-time slow-mo walkback, we have the 2023 Nissan Z with a 9-speed automatic transmission battling a 10-speed Ford Mustang Mach-1 and an 8-speed Toyota GR Supra 3.0.
Instrumented Testing Results are as follows:
1. 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-1 (automatic)
0-60 mph = 3.8 sec
1/4 mile = 12.1 sec @ 120 mph
2. 2022 Toyota GR Supra 3.0
0-60 mph = 3.8 sec
1/4 mile = 12.1 sec @ 117 mph
3. 2023 Nissan Z (Performance package) (automatic)
0-60 mph = 4.0 sec
1/4 mile = 12.3 sec @ 116 mph
For the second race, we have the 9-speed automatic Z versus the Z 6-speed manual.

The 2023 Nissan Z ($60,448 starting in Canada, $51,015 in the US), the Ford Mustang GT ($46,860 starting in Canada, $39,440 in the US), and the Dodge Challenger Scatpack 392 ($59,710 starting in Canada, $46,650 in the US) are lined up for a drag race.
The new Z has a powerful 400 horsepower engine and is here to represent a long line of classic sports cars out of Japan.
But how does it fare against some modern American muscle, which is also here to make its own classic heritage proud?
The two American muscle cars may have more horsepower than the Z, but they also weigh a considerable amount more. Thomas, James and Karston are ready to put these three to the test on the drag strip.

Very few automotive manufacturers can boast the sports car lineage of Nissan's Z. An icon for more than 50 years, the Z has been the first word in Japanese performance since 1969.
It's a proud legacy, which is why Nissan's seventh-generation model pays homage to its illustrious past, while celebrating its exciting future.
The highest levels of driving technology, safety and comfort are delivered in the new Z.
Chosen for this seventh-generation performance car was Nissan's VR30DDTT twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 which produces 298kW, and 475Nm of torque, which improves power to weight by almost 13 per cent over its predecessor, with improved structural rigidity and a faster sprint capability.
Underpinning the Z is all-alloy double wishbone front suspension, with a multi-link alloy independent rear. Ventilated front and rear discs, enclosed by 19-inch forged-alloy wheels, provide the ultimate in stopping power.
The six-speed manual transmission variant is matched to an EXEDY clutch system, with power fed to the rear wheels via a carbon-fibre composite tailshaft for lightness and strength. Advanced rev-matching is also offered for lightning-fast downshifts.
The automatic is a shift-by-wire nine-speed transmission, with paddle shifters on either side of the leather-accented steering wheel. Two driving modes are available: Standard and Sport, which unlocks performance by changing the steering profile, activating the Active Sound Enhancement system, and engaging sports mode in the Vehicle Dynamic Control.
Both automatic and manual models also feature launch control, a first for the Z.
