Singer se ha labrado su propio nicho en el mundo de los Porsche restaurados. Sus autos son un homenaje y un avance del original al mismo tiempo. Ahora, están recibiendo un asentimiento de aprobación de la marca cuyos autos están usando para sus creaciones, ya que Porsche proporcionará motores para futuros proyectos de Singer.


Por supuesto, cada Singer cuenta con un motor construido por Porsche. Lo nuevo es que los futuros vehículos Singer tendrán motores fabricados por Porsche según las especificaciones de Singer en lugar de que este último recurra a personas externas en busca de ayuda como lo hizo en el pasado. Eso es un gran problema y habla del nivel de trabajo que hace Singer que, obviamente, es reconocido por Porsche.



Porsche proporciona muchos motores a muchos terceros cada año, pero Singer es diferente. No son un equipo de deportes de motor o un equipo privado con un objetivo de rendimiento. Reconstruyen y revenden productos que originalmente eran todos Porsche.

Según un informe de Top Gear, Singer aclaró que estos motores tampoco serán unidades estándar. “Las características de los motores, que son el núcleo de cada automóvil Singer, seguirán estando definidas por las especificaciones de Singer”, se lee en un comunicado de Singer.

Porsche confirmó también su papel diciendo que “la nueva colaboración se centra exclusivamente en el montaje de motores remanufacturados”. Los motores se fabricarán al sur de Los Ángeles, California, en la sede de Porsche Motorsport North America (PMNA). Eso es conveniente para Singer, ya que es una empresa con sede en California.

Una advertencia es que el Singer DLS, o Estudio de dinámica y peso ligero , es independiente de este acuerdo. Seguirá siendo un banco de pruebas para la modificación de motores refrigerados por aire y su motor seguirá siendo un producto de Williams Advanced Engineering en el Reino Unido.

Singer has carved out its own neat little niche in the world of restored Porsches. Its cars are both an homage and an advancement on the original at the same time. Now, they’re getting a nod of approval from the brand whose cars they are using for their creations as Porsche itself will provide engines for future Singer projects.

Of course, every Singer features an engine built by Porsche. What’s new is that future Singer vehicles will have engines built by Porsche to Singer specification instead of the latter turning to outsiders for help as it did in the past. That’s a big deal and speaks to the level of work that Singer does which, obviously, is recognized by Porsche.

Porsche provides lots of engines to lots of third parties each year but Singer is different. They’re not a motorsports team or a private team with some performance goal. They rebuild and resell products that were originally all-Porsche.

According to a report from Top Gear, Singer clarified that these engines won’t just be off-the-shelf units either. “The characteristics of the engines – very much at the core of every Singer car – will continue to be defined by Singer’s specification,” a statement from Singer reads.

Porsche confirmed their role as well saying that “the new collaboration focuses exclusively on the assembly of remanufactured engines”. The engines will be built south of Los Angeles, California, at the Porsche Motorsport North America (PMNA) headquarters. That’s convenient for Singer since they’re a California-based company.

One caveat is that the Singer DLS, or Dynamics and Lightweight Study, is separate from this agreement. It will continue to be a testbed for air-cooled engine modification and its engine will still be a product of Williams Advanced Engineering in the U.K.

Porsche is to build engines for Singer. Sounds rhetorical almost, seeing as the restored cars obviously use Porsche flat six engines in the first place. But this arrangement sees Porsche Motorsport North America assemble engines for Singer, to Singer’s own specifications.

In other words, Porsche will be assembling modified engines done not to their own original specification, but to the specification of an aftermarket vehicle restoration company. Owners of the cars are unlikely to be able to tell any difference, but this news suggests at least a tacit approval on Porsche’s part of the work Singer does.

Porsche Motorsport obviously already works with race teams and other independent third parties, and the contract stipulates that the “the new collaboration focuses exclusively on the assembly of remanufactured engines”. A statement from Singer confirms: “The characteristics of the engines – very much at the core of every Singer car – will continue to be defined by Singer's specification.”

The contract does not include engines for the DLS cars – those are assembled in the UK – but could include not just existing versions of the naturally aspirated flat six, but forthcoming versions, presumably including Singer’s long-rumoured turbocharged engine.

All engines will be assembled at Porsche Motorsport’s North America headquarters, located within the Porsche Experience Centre in Los Angeles.

Looking more broadly, Porsche does not make a move like this without reason. It understands how this will be perceived. Expect this to the be the first step on a tentative path to further collaborations between the two companies...

A estas alturas pocos amantes de los Porsche, especialmente de sus clásicos, quedan sin conocer a la marca Singer. Esta compañía californiana es responsable de los restomods más famosos para los clásicos 911 refrigerados por aire y eso que casos recientes nos han demostrado que la relación con Porsche no era muy cercana, como se nos demostró con la polémica del Singer ACS.

Sin embargo todo eso parece ser ya cosa del pasado porque ahora resulta que Porsche y Singer han llegado a un acuerdo para que la marca alemana le construya sus propios motores.

Motores personalizados por la propia Porsche
Esto no solo supone un respaldo y reconocimiento directo de la marca oficial al trabajo y modelos de Singer, sino que además el acuerdo supone mucho más. Y es que como ya podrás imaginar cada Porsche 911 que construía Singer ya contaba con un motor Porsche, sin embargo la compañía californiana tenía que buscarse la vida solicitando esos bloques a terceros, muchas veces extraños de dudosa procedencia. Con este acuerdo ahora Singer no solo recibirá motores de mano de la propia Porsche, sino que además se fabricarán a medida para Singer según las especificaciones que requieran, tal y como ha dejado claro la propia Singer.

Motores construidos en Los Ángeles

Por su parte Porsche ha señalado que "esta nueva colaboración se centra exclusivamente en el montaje de motores reconstruídos" que se harán en las mismas instalaciones de Porsche Motorsport North America al sur de Los Ángeles, en California, lo cual es una gran ventaja teniendo en cuenta que Singer tiene allí también su cuartel general. Eso sí, el famoso Singer DLS queda fuera de este acuerdo, por lo que esta bestia off-road seguirá siendo por el momento un prototipo que contará con un bloque de Williams Advanced Engineering.
