The BMW M2 Coupe comes with a 370 hp N55 derivative which continues to rely on a single twin scroll turbocharger and uses S55 components


Earlier this year, we exclusively announced that the new BMW M2 will use the N55 engine which has been revised to include some parts from the S55 powerplant found in the new M3/M4.

BMW unveiled yesterday the X4 M40i, the M Performance Automobile also powered by a revised N55 unit. Looking at the specs, the engine of the BMW X4 M40i is a close relative of the engine for the BMW M2 F87, with the M2 Coupe getting an even sharper power stage with a power rating of 370 hp and improved response.

The basic N55 engine is used in both vehicles with a 3.0 liters of displacement and a twin scroll turbocharger, however, some components from the S55 are included for more stability and to allow an increase of boost pressure and injection quantity. An optimized air intake and an optimized exhaust system are also included.



The torque and power diagram shown below shows the 360-hp N55 variant for the BMW X4 M40i with an rated output at 5,800 and 6,000 rpm/min. We currently estimate that the 370 hp version of the N55 will not provide its rated output in such a wide area, as well as can be expected with a little more torque.



The increase in performance compared to the normally offered 306hp, 320hp or 326 hp base engine is possible because BMW uses some parts from the 431 hp S55 engine. The forged steel crankshaft, the crankshaft bearings and the special pistons and high-power spark plugs will allow an increase in the peak power combined with optimum durability in most sports usage.

Thanks to further improved cooling with a separate oil cooler, the engine of the BMW M2 should also easily handles even the most demanding race tracks, like the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The official presentation of the BMW M2 with all technical details and numerous photographs is scheduled for October 14.

Se pone interesante la cosa...Lo de mediados de octubre ya se sabía...
Algunos especulan que incluso pueden presentar el gts del m4 junto con el m2...Veremos,pero que lo presenten ya.

Se habla incluso en foros de bmw alemania,que habrá versión pata negra de m2...algo que en parte ya se espera...
Muchas ganas de verlo,espero que no decepcione.

Menuda "recta de par" que gasta el angelito...pero me parece muy abrupta la forma de morir la entrega de potencia arriba del todo. Me gusta más la del M4, que aunque la entrega antes aún, la mantiene más allá de las 7000 rpm. El M2 en cambio a 6000 rpm parece que choca con con una pared. Para mí debería tener más alegría arriba del todo un coche de este tipo, no creéis?

Exactamente, porque esa curva es del X4, motor pensado para una furgonetaM de considerable peso y volumen, que no estire demasiado no se vaya a descontrolar.

Un M2 necesita un motor bien rabioso, más compacto y ligero

En el momento q salga con un precio en niveles de 55-60 mil euros imagino q los propietarios del 1M se bajaran de la nube pq menudos precios ni que fuera un Enzo.

el motor es muy parecido al del 1M, va a ser muy distinto al s55
es muy distinto llegar a las 7.000 y pensar en cambiar que hacerlo 1000rpm antes, pero es cuestion de aconstumbrarse(cosa que amí no me importa)
pero el que venga de un atmosferico, va a hacersele muy corto

pues si cumple espectativas y mejora al m235i como debe hacerlo y pensando que ya l 235 es un pepino de cuidado, al lorito con el angelito que nos viene... Desde luego con el tiempo que llevan filtrando cosas, como no sea una bestia, va a ser para darles con toa la mano abierta.

y lo normal es que, si cumple espectativas, el 1M baje a la tierra. De hecho, desde que se han empezado a filtrar cositas de este bicho, han aparecido 1M hasta debajo de las piedras, y eso es un hecho.

Y reconozco que no soy objetivo, pues a mi el diseño del S2 coupe me encanta, que le vamos a hacer.

Se echan de menos los atmosfericos que subian a casi 9000 vueltas. Una pena, y todo por ahorrar costes, ya que quiza con la inyeccion directa pasaria los test sin problema.

Vamos, que se espera que la versión del M2 no tenga esa meseta de potencia tan ancha y posterior caída sino que sea más estrecha(eso implica una subida más lineal y más estirada).

El m235i ya decían que era el sucesor del super alabado m3 e46...Si a este m235i,le ponemos un punto más...pues maquinón del 15...Ah!el m235i suena a dios.
Lo de de los atmosféricos,yo tambien prefería algo sin turbo...pero bueno,es lo que hay.
Solo espero que sea bruto estéticamente.

+10000 , creo que no volveremos a ver motores atmosfericos de respuesta instantanea y que suban a 9000 vueltas... de ahí que yo este en busca y captura de un Z4M coupe jeje.
