    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Texas

This Ram 3500 Pickup Truck Owner Is Switching To A Tesla Cybertruck

    DEC 01, 2019 at 8:19PM

    By: Eric Loveday

It seems the Cybertruck does appeal to owners of a heavy-duty Ram.
The owner of this Ram 3500 diesel pickup truck is making the switch to a Tesla Cybertruck. Here's why the Cybertruck beats the Ram 3500.

Prior to the debut of the Cybertruck, we posted on whether or not Tesla would be able to draw in owners of full-size domestic trucks like the Ram, Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado.

Well, now we have an answer from at least one owner of a heavy-duty Ram truck.

This Ram owner uses his truck to tow a large Airstream trailer, yet he's convinced the Cybertruck is the better option of the two trucks.

The video explains many of the Cybertruck's features in detail and it also outlines the Ram truck owner's expectations from the Cybertruck. The Ram owner seems geeked by the amazing performance of Tesla's truck and he also seems to approve of the interior, but in the end, his decision to buy the Tesla Cybertruck comes down to his. It's simply cheaper to operate the Tesla Cybertruck, even more so when you consider that a big trailer is often in tow.

Additionally, the big battery in the Cybertruck will be able to power the Airstream, which is a huge plus when you're out in the backcountry.

The end of the video discusses some cons to the Tesla Cybertruck too, so be sure to watch it all.

Video description via GizmoSlip on YouTube:
I have officially pre-ordered a Tesla Cybertruck, but why? I've laid on all of the pros and cons of the Tesla Cybertruck as far as we know it currently. I hope you enjoy it! What do you think of the Cybertruck?

Couple paid $100 for abandoned car they found in a storage unit—Elon Musk bought it from them for nearly $1 million

In 1989, a couple from Long Island, New York paid roughly $100 for an unclaimed storage unit. It was a blind auction, meaning neither they nor the seller had any idea what was inside.

When the couple opened the unit, they were in for what would likely be the surprise of their lives: Buried under some old blankets sat a 1976 Lotus Esprit sports car used in the filming of the 1977 James Bond film “The Spy Who Loved Me.” In the movie, the sports car famously transforms into a submarine and fires missiles while underwater.

Years later, none other than Elon Musk bought their find for nearly $1 million.

They’d never seen a Bond film
The sports car — one of eight used in the filming of the Roger Moore Bond movie, but the only one that operated in underwater scenes — had been put in the storage unit after filming and remained there, forgotten for more than a decade until the New York couple (who have remained anonymous) came along.

At first, “they really didn’t know what it was,” Doug Redenius, co-founder of the Ian Fleming Foundation, which authenticated the car, told NBC News in 2013 of the couple, who ran a business renting construction tools. They had never even seen a Bond film.

“They had no idea how valuable their discovery was.”

The husband had planned on fixing the sports car’s dented roof and making other improvements. But after they loaded the car onto a truck and set off for home, truckers contacted them via CB radio to let them know they were hauling a James Bond car, according to Redenius.

The husband later “went out and rented the movie on VHS and saw what he had,” Redenius told NBC.

    Snapped up by Musk
After the couple “cosmetically restored” the vehicle, they displayed it in occasional exhibits over the next two decades before deciding to put it up for auction in 2013.

Redenius added in the 2013 interview that he had heard about the car’s existence years after the couple started exhibiting it, and he sought them out. He authenticated the car with the original builders and put the couple in touch with RM Sotheby’s, telling the couple before the auction that ”‘if [the car] sells for what we’re hoping, that money will give you an opportunity to live very comfortably for the rest of your life.’”

    Enter Elon Musk.

The Lotus sold at auction at RM Sotheby’s in 2013 to a secret buyer. It was later revealed that the new owner was Musk, and he reportedly paid $997,000 for the car.

National Motor Museum | Heritage Images | Getty Images
Musk said he’d grown up watching the Bond movie.

“It was amazing as a little kid in South Africa to watch James Bond in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ drive his Lotus Esprit off a pier, press a button and have it transform into a submarine underwater.

“I was disappointed to learn that it can’t actually transform. What I’m going to do is upgrade it with a Tesla electric powertrain and try to make it transform for real,” Musk told the auto blog Jalopnik in a statement in 2013.

To originally equip the Lotus for the movie, a marine engineering firm converted it into a functional submarine at a cost of more than $100,000 (the equivalent of nearly $425,000 today).

Nicknamed “Wet Nellie,” the car was used for underwater scenes, so when it sold in 2013 it had no wheels, only “articulated fins.” It also couldn’t drive on land, but it did actually work as a submarine, with ballast tanks to make diving possible. The car also featured “a bank of four propellers” in the back of the vehicle that let it move underwater while being powered by electric motors in a water-tight compartment.

During filming, the underwater scenes were performed by a retired U.S. Navy SEAL wearing full scuba gear with an oxygen tank, as the car’s interior was filled with water, according to Sotheby’s.

Recently, Musk said that the car served as part of the inspiration for Tesla’s new Cybertruck.

The 1976 Lotus Esprit submarine is not even the most expensive car from a James Bond film to ever go up for auction. In August, an Aston Martin DB5 that was used to promote the 1965 Bond film “Thunderball” sold at auction for $6.4 million to an anonymous buyer.

Tesla Patents Electromagnetic Windshield Wiper—Possibly for the Cybertruck
Anyone else notice Tesla's Cybertruck lacks windshield wipers?

    Alexander StoklosaWriter
    Dec 3, 2019
    [IMG]

Windshield wipers are perhaps the least-interesting components on any new vehicle, especially so when you're talking about a new vehicle as insane-looking as Tesla's Cybertruck electric pickup. But hold on—where are the Cybertruck's windshield wipers? The electric pickup utterly lacks wipers (as well as side mirrors). Could it be Tesla simply didn't have time to install the Cybertruck's windshield wipers on the prototype shown at its reveal event last month? Or could it be that Tesla is still working on a novel new wiper design, previewed in a patent we recently discovered, for its new electric pickup truck?

Filed in March 2019 and published early in September, the patent shows off a design for a single windshield wiper that moves laterally, side-to-side, straight across the windshield. Unlike traditional wipers' arcing rotational sweeps, the Tesla wiper, in concept, moves with pretty much the same motion as a human holding one of those gas-station wiper tools. It trades a rotating motor arm mount for a pair of tracks, essentially, at the top and bottom of the windshield glass. Electromagnets in those "rails" and on the wiper arm itself propel the wiper back and forth. The same basic technology propels maglev trains along.

What does this have to do with the Cybertruck's windshield wipers? While Tesla notes in its patent filing how an electromagnetic, rail-based wiper system would be ideal for complex windshields with elaborate curves—ensuring optimal, um, wiping—the huge, flat windshield on the Cybertruck would make an ideal test bed for the technology. Tesla could literally install two straight rails, an electromagnetic wiper blade, and call it a day. And with the Cybertruck's straight-edged looks, it isn't difficult to imagine a single, vertical wiper blade tucked up against one of its windshield pillars, ready to glide laterally across the glass when needed.

Tesla also believes its novel windshield wiper design is more attractive than a typical wiper. We'd have to see one for ourselves to make such a judgment, but the wiper certainly would look more at home on the out-there-looking Cybertruck than a traditional set of wipers uggo-fying the base of the windshield. As a bonus, Tesla's patent filing claims the electromagnetic wiperis are more energy efficient than typical motor-driven wipers when in use, sucking up less charge from the battery (a concern for an electric car that fossil-fuel-powered vehicles needn't worry about). We'll have to wait and see what Tesla does with this patent going forward, but the automaker is clearly aiming to shake up pickup trucks and car building in general with the Cybertruck. And this wiper tech is a lot more grounded in reality than other futuristic windshield-wiping technologies we've seen, which include air blasted across the glass and funny water-repellent coatings.
