GeneralMotors DEXRON®-VI Global Service-Fill Specification
During early 2005 General Motors released a newly developed automatic transmission fluid (ATF) for the factory fill of all GM Powertrain stepped gear automatic transmissions. The new fluid provides significantly improved performance in terms of friction durability, viscosity stability, aeration and foam control and oxidation resistance. In addition, the fluid has the potential to enable improved fuel economy and extended drain intervals. Since the performance of the new fluid far exceeded that of the DEXRON®-III service-fill fluids available at the time it became necessary to upgrade the DEXRON® service-fill specification in order to ensure that similar fluids were available in the market for service situations. This latest upgrade to the service- fill specification is designated DEXRON®-VI.
Since General Motors introduced the first ATF service-fill specification in 1949 it has been periodically necessary to upgrade the specification. This upgrading process ensures that available service fill fluids are of an appropriate quality for use in transmissions that have been designed around the factory fill fluid performance. It should be noted that, as with previous upgrades, DEXRON®-VI fluids are designed to be backward compatible with earlier transmission hardware. More importantly, earlier type fluids are not forward compatible with transmission hardware that was designed to use DEXRON®-VI fluid, i.e. DEXRON®-III is not compatible with the most recently designed transmissions, and the use of these earlier type fluids could result in transmission damage. All current calibrations and certification tests are now conducted with DEXRON®-VI ATF. DEXRON®-III fluids should not be used for these applications where the owners manual recommends the use of DEXRON®-VI. GM does not license or support obsolete ATF specifications or the use of fluids that are being marketed against cancelled specifications.
All DEXRON®-III licenses expire at the end of 2006 and will not be renewed. Beyond that date GM will only support the use of DEXRON®-VI fluids for use in Hydra-Matic transmissions. Fluids sold in the market after that date bearing claims such as “suitable for use in DEXRON®-III applications” or similar wording should be avoided. DEXRON®-VI licensed fluids are fully backward compatible and can be used in all applications covered by earlier GM ATF specifications.
The use of unlicensed fluids and/or non GM approved aftermarket additives may prove detrimental to transmission performance and void warranty coverage.
There is a published list of GM-approved brands of DEXRON®-VI (see page two of this release). This list represents the companies who have conducted the appropriate testing and received GM approval. Company name, license number, and brand name are shown. This list will be updated on a regular basis as more approved products are added.

Durante principios de 2005, General Motors dio a conocer un nuevo desarrollo fluido de transmisión automática (ATF) para la fábrica de relleno de todas las artes de GM Powertrain intensificado las transmisiones automáticas. El nuevo fluido proporciona un rendimiento mejorado de manera significativa en términos de durabilidad de fricción, estabilidad de la viscosidad, la aireación y control de la espuma y la resistencia a la oxidación. Además, el líquido tiene el potencial para que la economía de combustible y los intervalos de cambio extendidos. Ya que el rendimiento del nuevo fluido superado con creces la de la DEXRON ®-III servicio de llenado líquidos disponibles en el momento se hizo necesario actualizar el DEXRON ® servicio de relleno especificación con el fin de garantizar que los fluidos similares disponibles en el mercado para el servicio situaciones. Esta última actualización de la especificación del servicio de relleno se designa DEXRON ®-VI.
Desde General Motors presentó el primer ATF especificación del servicio de relleno en el año 1949 ha sido periódicamente necesarias para mejorar la especificación. Este proceso de actualización se asegura de que el servicio dispone de llenar los líquidos son de una calidad adecuada para su uso en las transmisiones que se han diseñado en torno a la fábrica de relleno de líquido. Cabe señalar que, al igual que con las actualizaciones anteriores, fluidos DEXRON ®-VI están diseñados para ser compatibles con el hardware de transmisión anterior. Más importante aún, a principios de los fluidos de tipo no son compatibles con los equipos de transmisión que fue diseñado para utilizar fluidos DEXRON ®-VI, es decir, DEXRON ®-III no es compatible con las emisiones más recientemente diseñada, y el uso de estos fluidos tipo anterior podría resultar en transmisión de los daños. Todas las calibraciones en curso y las pruebas de certificación se realiza ahora con DEXRON ®-VI ATF. Fluidos DEXRON ®-III no se debe utilizar para estas aplicaciones en el manual de instrucciones recomienda el uso de DEXRON ®-VI. GM no tiene licencia o apoyo obsoletos especificaciones ATF o el uso de los líquidos que se comercializan con las especificaciones cancelado.
Todas las licencias DEXRON ®-III expiran a finales de 2006 y no va a ser renovado. Más allá de esa fecha, GM sólo se admite el uso de fluidos DEXRON ®-VI para su uso en las transmisiones Hydra-Matic. Los líquidos se venden en el mercado después de que las alegaciones de la fecha teniendo como "adecuado para su uso en aplicaciones DEXRON ®-III" o términos similares se debe evitar. DEXRON ®-VI licencia líquidos son totalmente compatible y se puede utilizar en todos los usos contemplados en las especificaciones anteriores GM ATF.
El uso de líquidos sin licencia y / o no transgénicos aprobados los aditivos del mercado de accesorios puede resultar perjudicial para el rendimiento de transmisión y cobertura de la garantía sin efecto.

Esta lista representa a las empresas que han realizado las pruebas necesarias y recibió la aprobación de GM. Nombre de la empresa, número de licencia, y la marca se muestran.
