Ikea Goes Greener With Their New Electric Bike "Folkvanlig"
The Swedish furniture maker, famous for its practical innovative solutions for interior design, has recently announced it will join the “green party”, as a manufacturer. They are already selling solar panels and have an eco-friendly view with most of their products, so the e-bike was only natural to come next.
Ikea is reportedly planning to get 100% of the energy they use in their stores and buildings from renewable energy sources by the year 2020, so it was only natural they would join the world of e-bikes.
The Folkwanlig has a front fork made of steel and an aluminum frame that also holds the rechargeable lithium-ion battery, giving the green ride good stability and a nice sleek design. It was named after a combination of the Swedish words for people (folk) and friendly (vanlig) and is exactly that.
The bicycle is being offered in both male and female favors and has a range of about 37 to 45 miles (59 to 72 km) of pedal-assisted power between charges, that will last about five hours each. It is crafted with a Shimano transmission that develops six different driving modes, which we’ll give you the chance to decide how long it lasts until the next charge.
Besides the fact it’s friendly with the environment, it also comes with a decent price of $1,000 (EURO 750). Folkvanlig starts as a project, so it is being initially rolled out to a few Ikea stores in Vienna, Austria.
