Como veo que hay un poco de confusion sobre que es un portatil (el mac lo es), y que es un MID, nettop, etc, os pego esto:
The netbook (que no notebook ;-))
Netbooks are simple, affordable, compact devices for Internet use. They are typically designed in a clamshell form factor like a traditional laptop computer. Netbooks offer the freedom and flexibility of wireless connectivity for mobile use and offer full QWERTY keyboards. They feature screen sizes between about 7 and 10 inches measured diagonally.
The Asus Eee PC is a netbook.
Two especially well-known netbooks are the classmate PC and the Asus Eee PC.
A key distinction between netbooks and more powerful notebook computers is that netbooks offer enough processing power to learn and explore on the Web, and to consume multimedia content, but not enough power to create rich new content.
So netbooks are great for browsing, using email, listening to audio and watching video, photo viewing, social networking, voice over IP, e-mail, messaging, and other Internet activities as well as for basic applications.
The classmate PC is another netbook design.
But a standard laptop is the best choice for consumers who want a more capable machine for burning DVDs, creating multimedia content, or storing large quantities of photos or data.
A typically configured netbook includes:
- The Intel® Atom ™ processor N270 at 1.6GHz
- The Mobile Intel® 945GSE Express Chipset with the ICH7M
- A 7"-10" screen
- 802.11b/g WLAN
- A mini-keyboard
- 400MHz or 533MHz memory
- 256 to 512MB RAM
- Linux or MS XP Home operating system
- 2-4GB of flash based storage and no hard drive or optical drive
- An estimated system price point of approximately $250
The nettop
Nettops are similar to netbooks, except that they are designed for desktop use. Like a traditional desktop, a nettop generally features a separate monitor and keyboard.
Nettops are low-cost machines best suited for
Web browsing,
e-mail, consuming Internet content such as text, photos, audio and video, and running basic applications. Nettops are essentially scaled-down desktops, great for many uses, though not for high-performance gaming or multimedia creation.
The Asus Eee Box is an innovative nettop.
The MID
Mobile Internet devices are
truly mobile—even pocketable—devices that offer "the best Internet experience in your pocket,". MIDs allow users to communicate, entertain, access information, and be productive.
This MID from Lenovo was showcased at the Computex trade show in Taipei in early June.
MIDs typically feature screen sizes of less than six inches and offer a simple user interface. Different flavors of MIDs will target both consumers and mobile professionals. They'll offer entertainment, information, communication and productivity.
Some OEMs are using the term Ultra Mobile PC, or UMPC, for productivity-based MIDs. These machines will offer similar manageability and security to traditional PCs. Apple iPhone, though limited, can be considered the first MID.
