Both drivers demonstrate the capabilities of the all-wheel drive system in the new BMW M3 and M4, of course, with some drifting as well. BMW M4 xDrive | ¿Cómo se maneja en circuito?

El BMW PRO Driver, Bill Auberlen, nos lleva por la pista en el nuevo BMW M4 xDrive con tracción total. La pista de carreras elegida hoy en día es el Thermal Club en Palm Springs, California. Bill da unas vueltas rápidas mientras persigue otro BMW M4 xDrive, conducido por el piloto de BMW PRO John Edwards. Ambos conductores demuestran las capacidades del sistema de tracción total en los nuevos BMW M3 y M4, por supuesto, también con algunos derrapes.

Aparte de la incorporación de la tracción total, el nuevo modelo sigue siendo un M4 Competition bajo la piel. Lo que significa que utiliza un I6 de 3.0 litros con doble turbocompresor para generar 503 caballos de fuerza y 479 libras-pie de torque. Su transmisión automática de ocho velocidades envía la potencia a las ruedas a través de un diferencial trasero de deslizamiento limitado controlado electrónicamente.



Los sistemas BMW M xDrive en los nuevos M3 y M4 funcionan de manera muy similar a como funcionan en el M5 . Hay tres modos; 4WD, 4WD Sport y 2WD, al igual que en los modelos M5 y M8. En condiciones normales de conducción, incluso en el modo 4WD predeterminado, todo el par disponible del motor se envía a las ruedas traseras. Corrimos la mayor parte de la pista con 4WD Sport, pero en algún momento, Bill apagó el control de tracción para entrar un poco.


También usamos el nuevo BMW M Drift Analyzer que detecta cuando estás derrapando y te da una calificación. De esta manera, si puede permitirse que los neumáticos y la pista se desvíen todos los días, realmente puede mejorar con la ayuda del nuevo sistema M Traction Control. Esta nueva versión le permite ajustar cuánto puede deslizarse la parte trasera del automóvil. ¿El récord de Bill en este video? 185 yardas. El M4 xDrive frente a nosotros logró obtener 385 yardas de deriva.

Both drivers demonstrate the capabilities of the all-wheel drive system in the new BMW M3 and M4, of course, with some drifting as well.

Aside from the addition of the all-wheel drive, the new model is still an M4 Competition under the skin. Which means it uses a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged I6 to make 503 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. Its eight-speed auto sends the power to the wheels through an electronically-controlled limited-slip rear diff.

The BMW M xDrive systems in the new M3 and M4 works very similarly to how it works in the M5. There are three modes; 4WD, 4WD Sport, and 2WD, just as there are in the M5 and M8. In normal driving conditions, even in the default 4WD mode, all of the engine’s available torque is sent to the rear wheels. We ran most of the track with 4WD Sport, but at some point, Bill turned off the traction control to get some drifting in.

We also used the new BMW M Drift Analyzer which detects when you’re drifting and give you a rating. This way, if you can afford the tires and the track to drift every day, you can actually become better at it, with the help of the new M Traction Control system. This new version allows you to adjust just how much the car’s rear end can slip. Bill’s record in this video? 185 yards. The M4 xDrive in front us managed to get 385 yards of drift.

We quickly got to the drawing board and all of the pieces to the puzzle quickly started falling into place. With the help of Moton Suspension, Akrapovic, Vorsteiner, Thule, and Rays Wheels, this build has nothing but the best. We couldn't be happier to debut it at this years SEMA at the AST/Moton Suspension booth

From IOMG to SEMA : The PSI G80 SEMA Build

Nail the order spec. From the beginning, the team here at PSI were after an attractive color combination for our new G80 M3. The Isle Of Man Green paint paired with the striking Kyalami Orange interior, including those beautiful carbon fiber-backed seats and carbon fiber body trim, fit the bill perfectly. As manual transmissions are becoming increasingly rare, we insisted on including one of those, which meant foregoing the Competition Package. Not to worry - anything lost there would soon be made up with our upcoming upgrades on our journey to the SEMA Show. If you remember our F82 M4 build from 2014, you’re in for a similar treat this time around.

Get the stance right. We’ve been working with various wheel, tire and suspension combinations for quite a long time now, and we wasted no time making sure our new M3 is sitting correctly. While the car was initially ordered with a staggered setup, today it is sitting on a set of Rays GT090 Blast Black wheels in 20x10 / 20x11 sizing. Behind these are the first set of G80-spec Moton One Way coilovers available on the market. We have been working closely with Moton + AST Suspension on their BMW suspension products, and we are seriously impressed with their ability to control compression and rebound, which means the ride is firm while cornering yet supple over bumps.








Sound matters. The M3 and M4 already have a terrific powerplant, but as with nearly all production vehicles, there is more that can be extracted. A strong first step is an exhaust that is not only significantly lighter, but dramatically increases airflow and improves the sound. Our G80 features the first Akrapovic fully titanium exhaust system with octagonal carbon/Ti tips, installed alongside their rear diffuser, which fills out the rear end of the car impressively.






Details are everything. There is no denying the visual impact of the new stance on our G80, but there is still more: the first Vorsteiner carbon fiber front lip and rear decklid spoiler, which will be added shortly. We also partnered with Jon Sibal to design a stunning graphic scheme to highlight the car. Plus, we can carry all of our PSI merch and swag in the rooftop cargo carrier!

Headphones in, volume up. Forget about that controversial front grill. Listen to this noise! That signature 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six is an auditory maelstrom of mechanical whines and growls, revving up to its limiter in such a smooth and silky fashion. One of the best sounding M3/4s to date, V8s excluded, of course. Have a listen, and enjoy. Of note: the microphone in this video was mounted outside right next to the exhaust, so what you're hearing is the true exhaust noise, not the sounds from the driver's seat.
