This is the new 2021 BMW M4 Competition Convertible, the final version of the new BMW M3 Competition & M4 Competition model line up to be released.
It is arguably the most desirable model in the line up but also one of the most interesting because for the first time the M3 & M4 are available with BMW M xDrive, and the Convertible is only available with M xDrive!
The convertible M4 uses the same 510hp power plant as its hard top siblings but thanks to the all-wheel drive system the 0-62mph sprint is dealt with in just 3.7 seconds!
That is supercar performance. But has the addition of all-wheel drive an inevitably nearly 200kg to the BMW M4 Competition Convertible ruined one of the best performance cars out there?

Se trata de la primera unidad entregada en España y destaca por su espectacular combinación de color, su multitud de detalles y su poderoso motor de seis cilindros con 510 CV.
He escogido el BMW M4 en su versión Cabrio porque soy un apasionado de los descapotables. A día de hoy este modelo solo está disponible con tracción integral xDrive y cambio automático de ocho relaciones. Bajo el capó encontramos un motor de seis cilindros en línea y 3 litros de cilindrada que gracias al doble turbo alcanza los 510 CV y 650 Nm de par.
El nuevo BMW M4 Competition Cabrio 2021 es una auténtica bestia, con unas prestaciones espectaculares. Acelera de cero a cien en 3,7 segundos, mientras que su velocidad máxima está fijada en los 250 km/h.
Además, todo con el cielo como techo, ya que gracias a su sistema de techo de lona retráctil pueden aumentar las sensaciones y emociones co solo tocar un botón.
¿Por qué esta combinación de color? Mi intención inicial era pedirlo en color gris con interior rojo, una combinación que me encanta. De momento el M4 no permitía el interior de esa tonalidad por lo que finalmente opté por el interior en gris muy claro y consideré que este color azul eléctrico le sentaba realmente bien.

2022 BMW M4 Convertible en Tanzanite Blue II va al circuito

La versión convertible del BMW M4 nunca ha sido un gran vendedor para la marca M, pero la capota abierta elegante y rápida ofrece una gran alternativa para aquellos que viven en climas cálidos y disfrutan de la experiencia de tener el techo bajado. También es una de las mejores formas de disfrutar del sonido del motor S58, sin estar rodeado por el sonido activo dentro de la cabina.
Si agrega a la mezcla un color especial como Tanzanite Blue II Metallic, entonces el G83 BMW M4 Convertible se convierte en una propuesta aún más interesante. La pintura azul oscuro ha sido un elemento básico en la paleta de colores de BMW durante bastante tiempo y sin duda es uno de los tonos más interesantes. El color cambia a menudo según las condiciones de iluminación y puede variar de un azul brillante a un azul muy oscuro cercano al azul medianoche o incluso al negro zafiro.

The convertible version of the BMW M4 has never been a huge seller for the M brand, but the sleek and fast open top offers a great alternative to those who live in warm climates and enjoy the experience of having the roof down. It’s also one of the best ways to enjoy the sound of the S58 engine, without being surrounded by the Active Sound inside the cabin.
If you add to the mix a special color like Tanzanite Blue II Metallic, then the G83 BMW M4 Convertible becomes an even more interesting proposition. The dark blue paintwork has been a staple in the BMW color palette for quite some time and it is certainly one of the most interesting hues. The color changes often based on the lighting conditions and can vary from a sparkly blue to a very dark blue close to Midnight Blue or even Sapphire Black.
In the case of the M4 Convertible, the Tanzanite Blue II blends in nicely with the XXL kidney grille, somewhat softening the front-end of the car and distracting from the large grilles. In the photo gallery below you can see M4 Convertible both on and off the track, and you can also see the variation in the color hues.
With the roof up, which is now a soft-top, it looks like a classy, performance GT car. Think mini-M8 Convertible, rather than drop-top M3. BMW’s decision to go with a fabric roof was also a good one. Soft-top convertible roofs just look more premium and more elegant than folding hard-tops. The only folding metal hard-top roofs that look good are those on high-priced exotics, such as the McLaren 720S Spider and Ferrari Portofino.
Not only is it more elegant but it’s a functional improvement, as well. The new folding soft-top is 40-percent lighter than the outgoing hard-top, which does a few things. It allows for BMW to add the increased structural bracing required when removing the fixed roof, without adding as much to the overall curb weight.
It also significantly reduces the center of gravity, versus the old car, which increases agility and provides better driving feel. Plus, BMW has done a ton of work on the fabric roof, increasing its insulation and providing a full glass rear window, to keep road and wind noise down, while also providing better weather insulation. It opens and closes in eighteen seconds, this new roof, and can be operated at speeds up to 31 mph.
Obviously, trunk space is hindered, versus the M4 Coupe, but having a folding soft-top gives the new BMW M4 Convertible more trunk space than its predecessor. So now you get 9.0 cubic feet (284 liters) of space, which is up 1.2 cubic feet (34 liters) from before.
So overall, the 2022 BMW M4 Convertible is a welcome addition to the M3/M4 family and it’s likely that in a distant future BMW will pair the open top with an electric drivetrain. But until then, you can still get to enjoy the nice blurbs coming out of that performance exhaust.

2022 BMW M4 Convertible xDrive: 0-60 mph en 3.24 segundos

Este nuevo BMW M4 es realmente rápido. Para ser honesto, es mucho más rápido de lo que esperábamos, especialmente con la tracción total xDrive. Los fanáticos se preguntaron por qué BMW usaría una tecnología tan herética en los nuevos M3 y M4 y, después de ver las cifras de rendimiento, ahora tiene sentido. Con xDrive, el nuevo BMW M4 es más rápido que un Ferrari 458 Italia en línea recta. Como prueba de eso, alguien probó un BMW M4 Competition xDrive Convertible y alcanzó las 60 mph en 3.24 segundos.

2022 BMW M4 Convertible xDrive: 0-60 mph in 3.24 seconds

This new BMW M4 is properly fast. To be honest, it’s far faster than we expected it to be, especially with xDrive all-wheel drive. Fans wondered why BMW would use such heretical technology in the new M3 and M4 and, after seeing the performance figures, it now makes sense. With xDrive, the new BMW M4 is faster than a Ferrari 458 Italia in a straight line. For proof of that, someone tested a BMW M4 Competition xDrive Convertible and it hit 60 mph in 3.24 seconds.
For reference, the aforementioned Ferrari was claimed to do the same sprint in 3.4 seconds back in its day, which was admittedly more than ten years ago. What’s even more shocking is that the M4 used for the test was a Convertible, which is the heaviest and slowest of the Competition xDrive models. It didn’t even have the lightweight sport seats, so it was about as heavy as an M4 can get. Curb weight for the BMW M4 Competiton xDrive Convertible is about 4,300 lbs, which makes it quite the porker.
The car was also stock, running on 93 octane gas and using the Pirelli P Zero tires that came with the car. So no funny business was going on during this test. Hell, the 0-60 mph time was even without a one-foot rollout and on a slight incline, and it still ran a 3.24 second time. For reference, my 627 horsepower M5 CS tester, with a one-foot rollout, got to 60 mph in 2.89 seconds.
Gone are the days of slim, lightweight M cars but at least these new heavyweights make up for that with shocking performance.
(RESULTS: Garbage trap speed — but I let up because of some traffic. Also I was the only person in car at 200lbs plus 3/4 tank of gas… so definitely can trap higher with less weight and WOT all the way through… look at the graph and you can see I pulled up.)

Este nuevo BMW M4 es realmente rápido. Para ser honesto, es mucho más rápido de lo que esperábamos, especialmente con la tracción total xDrive. Los fanáticos se preguntaron por qué BMW usaría una tecnología tan herética en los nuevos M3 y M4 y, después de ver las cifras de rendimiento, ahora tiene sentido. This new BMW M4 is properly fast. To be honest, it’s far faster than we expected it to be, especially with xDrive all-wheel drive. Fans wondered why BMW would use such heretical technology in the new M3 and M4 and, after seeing the performance figures, it now makes sense. With xDrive, the new BMW M4 is faster than a Ferrari 458 Italia in a straight line. For proof of that, someone tested a BMW M4 Competition xDrive Convertible and it hit 60 mph in 3.24 seconds.
For reference, the aforementioned Ferrari was claimed to do the same sprint in 3.4 seconds back in its day, which was admittedly more than ten years ago. What’s even more shocking is that the M4 used for the test was a Convertible, which is the heaviest and slowest of the Competition xDrive models. It didn’t even have the lightweight sport seats, so it was about as heavy as an M4 can get. Curb weight for the BMW M4 Competiton xDrive Convertible is about 4,300 lbs, which makes it quite the porker.
The car was also stock, running on 93 octane gas and using the Pirelli P Zero tires that came with the car. So no funny business was going on during this test. Hell, the 0-60 mph time was even without a one-foot rollout and on a slight incline, and it still ran a 3.24 second time. Idéntico al que tengo pedido, salvo las llantas que las he pedido bicolor.
Parece que no anda nada mal, esa aceleración descapotado tiene que ser curiosa. Ahora a ver si llega o que, por que con lo de los chips BMW lleva un lio de retrasos con sus producciones bastante serio.
