A real M car is a real M car, yet they still come in various flavours.
The M3 and M4 are very similar yet with many crucial differences. The M4 Competition that we tested recently was manic and very hardcore in my opinion. As much as I enjoyed the performance and overall ability, there were certain factors that would preclude me from making this my choice for everyday use.
Enter the M3 competition instead. Same engine, gearbox and mechanicals. The ride and suspension not quite as hard, the sports seats not quite as extreme and the rear seats easier to access with the 4 door bodyshell.
You still get 375kW and 650Nm just waiting to be unleashed at the press of one of the RED M buttons on the steering wheel. Even when driven in a docile manner in comfort mode you always are aware of the beast waiting to be unleashed, Yet you can potter along in traffic if you really have to.
This is a true example of a dual personality. It has all the features and creature comforts of a regular 3 Series plus the potential to take to a race track if you feel the urge.
The test car was fitted with optional carbon ceramic brakes at R140 000, giving exceptional stopping power to match the go if needed.
Currently priced at R1.9 million before options, the M3 Competition is in the same price bracket as the opposition. If bragging rights as well as extreme performance potential are what you want, then this has to be on your short-list.

2022 M4 Comp xDrive - Individual Grigio Telesto

A pesar de 5 meses, innumerables retrasos, una tontería desorientada de un combo CA / distribuidor y un mercado generalmente loco, está aquí. Literalmente, solo lo puso en marcha para ponerlo en el camión del detallista y sacarlo para obtener PPF, cerámica y tinte. Todavía estoy dividido entre PPF sigiloso o claro; mi F-Type saliente tenía sigilo y me encantó. Es agridulce, ya que me encantó ese coche y hay ciertas cosas que este coche simplemente no puede reemplazar, pero "hacia adelante y hacia arriba" por así decirlo. No 'modifico' autos, así que aparte de tal vez una actualización de las contramedidas policiales a un sistema ALP completo, todo lo que haré es la protección exterior y el tinte. Conseguiré un paquete de ruedas / neumáticos de invierno, pero perdí la lotería de neumáticos, así que romperé estos P-Zeros lo antes posible.

Fue un incendio en un contenedor de basura con el comerciante. New Country BMW en Hartford CT es una vergüenza de principio a fin. Desorganizado, despistado de todo el proceso, cero comunicación. Desde discutir sobre el grabado de VIN y las "tarifas" unitemizadas (nitrógeno en las llantas, jejeje), hasta acosarlos para que escribieran una mierda, hasta una falta general de comunicación, fue un viaje, seguro. En ningún momento durante las largas demoras en cualquier etapa tuvieron más información que Genius, y mucho menos este foro, que debería ser una lectura estándar para cualquiera que trabaje en un distribuidor. Desde tonterías condescendientes como "Está a punto de subir al barco para terminar" (15 días en un período de 30 días en QC), hasta no saber nada sobre las ventas detenidas, fue una comedia de fracasos.

El coche llegó el sábado y quería pasar a verlo, CA dice "Le preguntaré a mi GSM si está aquí" ... y ni siquiera me pudo enviar un mensaje de texto. El lugar es del tamaño de mi cocina y prácticamente no tiene inventario ... ¿no sabe / no puede verificar si un camión dejó el automóvil de su cliente? Descubrí que estaba allí desde otro CA al azar a través de un amigo. Le dije al CA probablemente 4-5 veces que no quitara ninguno de los plásticos de envío, y por supuesto que lo hicieron. El auto es un completo desastre. Huellas de manos en la suciedad, etc.

De hecho, es la segunda vez que les pedí un automóvil individual ... el primer trato fracasó porque jugaron juegos estúpidos con mi oficio, en 2017. Fue una suerte, ya que así es como terminé con el F-Type. Esta vez ni siquiera planeaba molestarme con el intercambio ... especialmente después de que la CA dijo que la equidad comercial tenía que aplicarse en su totalidad a la compra de un nuevo automóvil ... ¡lo cual, sorpresa! Él estaba equivocado. Les di una oportunidad a la tasación mientras ya tenía una oferta de otro distribuidor y todos los servicios de compra de automóviles. Yo también tenía el informe de MMR en la mano. El payaso administrador de autos usados se quedó $ 5k menos que otro concesionario franquiciado 3 minutos más tarde ... incluido el crédito de impuestos sobre las ventas que habría obtenido si hubiera cambiado. Despite 5 months, countless delays, a clueless dipshit of a CA/dealer combo, and a generally whacky market, it's here. Literally only started it to get it on the detailer's truck and off to get PPF, ceramic and tint. I'm still torn between stealth PPF or clear; my outgoing F-Type had stealth and I loved it. It's bittersweet, as I loved that car and there are certain things that this car just cannot replace, but 'onward and upward' as it were. I don't 'mod' cars so aside from maybe an upgrade to the police countermeasures to a full ALP system, the exterior protection stuff and tint is about all I'll do. I'll get a winter wheel/tire package, but I lost the tire lottery so I'll rip through these P-Zeros ASAP.
It was a dumpster fire off the rip with the dealer. New Country BMW in Hartford CT is an embarrassment start to finish. Disorganized, clueless to the whole process, zero communication. From arguing about VIN etch and unitemized "fees" (nitrogen in the tires, lol), to hounding them to get shit in writing, to a general lack of communication, it was a trip, for sure. At no point during the long delays at any stage did they have any info more than Genius, let alone this forum, which should be standard reading for anyone working at a dealer. From patronizing nonsense like "It's just about to get on the boat to make it's way over" (15 days into a 30 day stint in QC), to not knowing anything about the stop sales, it was a comedy of failures.
The car came Saturday and I wanted to stop by and see it, CA says "I'll ask my GSM if it's here"... then couldn't even text me back. The place is the size of my kitchen and you have virtually no inventory...you don't know/can't check if a truck dropped off your customer's car? Found out it was there from another CA randomly through a buddy. I told the CA probably 4-5 times to not remove any of the shipping plastics, and of course they did. The car is a complete mess. Hand prints in dirt on it, etc.
It's actually the second time I ordered an individual car from them...the first deal fell through because they played stupid games with my trade, back in 2017. That was serendipitous, as that's how I ended up with the F-Type. This time I didn't even plan on bothering with the trade...especially after the CA said trade equity had to be applied in full to the new car purchase...which, surprise! He was wrong. I gave them a shot at the appraisal while I already had an offer from another dealer, and all the car buying serivces. I had the MMR report in hand, too. The clown used car manager came up $5k short of another franchised dealer 3 minutes up the road...including the sales tax credit I'd have gotten if I traded. Vroom had a better offer. Whatever. It's a small market BMW dealer in central CT. It's exactly what you'd expect.
Anyway, enough of the rant:

Its been a while but this has been challenging with all the design constraints due to the amount of space behind the OE bumper and the shape of the hood/bonnet.

I would like to point out this is bumper has been designed to provide an alternative to the OEM just like there have been aftermarket options for the E9X M3, F8X M3 and F87 M2.

We are at the stage where will produce a prototype in carbon fibre and see how it looks on the physical car. For now the renders below are based off the actual CAD of the bumper.

Until we have physically tested it on the car the two small dimples are there to keep the parking sensors in the exact OEM position. We will see if this can be adjusted. The bottom lip is separate from the bumper so can be finished in carbon, painted body colour or gloss black allowing for individual finishes.

ACM | Fashion Grey + Fiona Red G80 M3 6MT

The long anticipated arrival of Marshall's Fashion Grey over Fiona Red 6MT has just arrived here from Maryland.

To start, we're addressing some aesthetics he wants changed immediately. We'll be tackling those while we wait for the other parts to be made and/or delivered. The full car will be given the paint protection film and ceramic coating treatment before it hits the road.

His last two cars were tastefully done (photos below) and this one should be no different. We'll be back in to post updates on the car as we move forward with the progress, but in the meantime, here's some photos in it's stock form for the first and last time.

How To Launch Control in a Manual Transmission BMW M3 and M4

What is the weight difference between the manual and automatic transmissions?
The total weight reduction of the manual transmission car is -25kg compared to the 8-speed M Steptronic.
Are there any other differences between the Competition and the non-Competition other than the gearbox?
Besides the power rating and the transmission itself there is no technical difference. There are some optical differences - badges, body colored mirror caps and gurney, and tail pipe color.
Why not have a 7th gear for lower rpm at highway speeds?
Operating more than 6 speeds in an H-pattern does not come in handy.
Are the gear ratios in the transmission the same as the predecessor?
Yes, there are no changes on the gear ratios vs. predecessor.
For daily and "a bit of fun" use, would you recommend manual or automatic transmission?
That's completely up to you.
What is the maximum torque of the manual gearbox?
The manual transmission models are rated at 353kW / 550Nm; Competition models with 8-speed M Steptronic are rated 375kW / 650Nm.

Is there an engineering reason why the manual transmission isn't available on the AWD model?
No. The BMW M3 and M4 are designed to be a puristic and weight-optimized configuration. So we didn't see a merit in adding the heavier, rather complex M xDrive system to the manual.
Is it possible to have the cruise control feature with the manual transmission option?
The standard equipment of all new BMW M3 and M4 models - also with manual transmission - includes dynamic cruise control. The adaptive cruise control is only available for the models equipped with 8-speed M Steptronic.
What is the weight of the dual mass flywheel?
That is 13.74 kg.
Why is a dual mass flywheel and not a single mass flywheel in use? What's the difference?
A dual mass flywheel offers a much better decoupling of engine vibrations from the drivetrain. A single mass flywheel would create annoying rattle at idle and low speed / high torque situations.
Would the transmission show a lot of wear with a single mass flywheel?
No for the transmission. For the engine and the rest of the car massive negative consequences are very likely.
What transmission oil is used and what material is the oil pan made of?
Regular manual transmission oil. Refer to your local BMW service partner for exact specifications. And there is no oil pan in the manual transmission; both housing parts are made of cast aluminum.
Is that transmission made by ZF or Getrag?
Both transmission types of the new M3 and M4 are supplied by ZF.
Was it needed to put 4 metal plates and not just keep 3?
Yes, the reinforcement was necessary for the new M3 / M4.
Coming from an M2 Competition, would this feel similar in terms of shifting?
Yes, it would be very similar.
How do you balance emotive shifting with daily sensibilities?
The synchronisation allows for easy shifting at lower shift speeds. For higher emotion, we added a short shifter.
When we hold the clutch pedal, does the car stop moving on an incline road?
Yes, the car features an automatic uphill start assistant that will hold the car still with a pressed clutch pedal, but just a few seconds.
Does the car support flat-foot shifting?
No, it does not support flat-foot shifting. For the race start there is a launch assist function within the engine.
Does the manual have an anti-lag system so you don't loose boost with each gear change?
No, there will be a torque interruption.
Do you have any specific advice to preserve clutch and gearbox in daily city driving?
Shift precisely, shift smoothly, do not race-start the car and always fully press the clutch.
For drifting purposes would you recommend automatic or manual transmission?
Drifting is possible quite easily with all M3 and M4 models - even with the upcoming M xDrive. Just jump in, give it a go - and always stick with the law.
Can you skip gears in a downshift and still have the car match the revs?
Yes, that is possible. But, please, do not shift from 5th or 6th to 2nd while cruising at higher speeds, you may blow your engine and clutch.
Is the clutch a push or a pull type system?
The clutch is a hydraulic push type system.
