Isle of Man Green is the color launch for the new 2021 BMW M3 Sedan


On September 23rd, BMW will finally unveil the highly awaited G80 M3. The controversial sports sedan is currently being previewed behind doors around the world, and a BMWBLOG reader had the chance to see the car in person. As we reported in the past, the 2021 BMW M3 Sedan will use the Isle of Man Green as the launch color.



Among the “old school” Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Dravit Grey, Portimao Blue or Tanzanite Blue colors, we will also get the Isle of Man Green, Sao Paolo Yellow and Toronto Red. The last one has already been seen on the new BMW X4 M. The 2021 BMW M4 Coupe (G82) will launch with the Sao Paolo Yellow color option.


Using Isle of Man Green as the color launch comes as no surprise. Last fall, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, we had the chance to chat with Domagoj Dukec, BMW’s Head of Design. At the time, we were standing in front of the BMW M8 Gran Coupe First Edition which was also painted in a striking green color – Aurora Diamant Green Metallic.

During our interview, Dukec mentioned that future green paint jobs will be part of the BMW portfolio, including M products. Fast forward a year later and the stunning Isle of Man Green lands on the G80 M3. Speaking of the 2021 BMW M3, the car shown behind closed doors was also the Competition model with black wheels and a carbon fiber package.

There was a set of carbon fiber bucket seats with the seat backs also made of carbon fiber. Furthermore, your typical M bits around the dashboard and center console were present as well. The optional laser headlights were also present. One interesting tidbit is that the carbon fiber roof on the new M3 also features roof-rack inserts. The power dome on the hood was missing as well.

The large kidney grille is still there and was painted in black. We’ve heard from a source in the U.S. that the blacked out kidneys were done on the request of BMW U.S. dealers.

Feedback on the Sao Paulo Yellow G82 M4 Competition shown at Monticello M Track Days!

I'm happy to confirm that BMW showed a beautiful Sao Paulo Yellow M4 Comp to a very anxious crowed during the morning session at Monticello. They even commented on reading this thread and being amused by the speculation.

They had a security team escort 4 people at a time into a private viewing area after handing over all electronic devices. There they had a BMW team available to answer questions.

The car makes a statement for sure. Especially in that outstanding yellow color. The grills are enormous and by my taste seem unnecessary and out of place compared to the rest of the car. Carbon roof, diffuser, amazing quad exhaust finished very similar to the M8 Comp. I was so impressed by the interior. The optional carbon seats were a pale blue and body color and looked stunning.

M Track Days is already one of the best ways to spend 4 hours and $500. Being one of the first people in the US to see the M4 is icing on the cake.

I've owned 4 F8X, currently in a M4 CS. And chances are I'll deal with the stupid grill and hope to compliments aggressive looks with a lip or something.

 

Sao Paulo Yellow is the launch color for the 2021 BMW M4

On September 23, 2020, BMW M will unveil their sixth generation M3. While the M3 name has been around for decades, the M4 badge is only on its second iteration, but it’s essentially the former M3 Coupe. As we announced yesterday, the launch color for the new 2021 BMW M3 is Isle Man of Green. Today, we can confirm that the Sao Paolo Yellow is the chosen color for the market launch of the 2021 BMW M4 Coupe.



We’ve already seen the beautiful yellow shade in previous teaser shots, but according to our sources, the Sao Paolo Yellow truly shines on the G82 M4. The color was previously previewed in a render from Andrei Avarvarii. It also comes as no surprise that BMW picked the Sao Paolo Yellow as their marketing color.

The previous generation F82 BMW M2 was also launched in a flashy paint job – Austin Yellow. Along with the Sao Paolo Yellow and Isle Man of Green, BMW will also offer a wide range of exterior colors for the new M brothers: Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Dravit Grey, Portimao Blue, Toronto Red and Tanzanite Blue.

Inside the cabin, the 2020 BMW M3 and M4 would get a black, orange/black or blue/black Merino leather combinations. The leather offerings are likely to be expanded.

The new G80 M3 and G82 M4 are the first of their kinds in many ways. For starters, they mark the first time that the M3 or M4 will be offered with two different drivetrain options. One such drivetrain option will be an xDrive all-wheel drive system, another first. They’ll also be some of the most polarizing cars in modern BMW history, due to their new grille design.


There will be two variants of both the BMW M3 and M4; a standard model and a Competition model, both of which will be the same from M3 to M4. While both cars will sport the brand’s S58 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged I6 engine, power levels and options will vary.

As for the standard cars, they will sport 353 kW/480 hp with a six-speed manual transmission as-standard and rear-wheel drive. The maximum torque is rated at 600 Nm (442 lb-ft).

If you jump up to the Competition-spec models, you get 375 kW/510 hp and an eight-speed automatic. However, where the Competition model gets interesting is that it will also be rear-wheel drive as-standard and all-wheel drive will be available sometime after market launch.

a 6-speed manual transmission, a Competition model with 375 kW/510 hp and an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic will also be on offer in each case.

The core component shared by all BMW M4s is the newly developed straight six-cylinder engine featuring M TwinPower Turbo technology and a high-revving concept. From the outset, the high-performance-power plant was developed on the basis of performance characteristics taken directly from motorsport. Not only will the BMW M Customer Racing Teams, who will be deploying the BMW M4 GT3 in numerous GT series worldwide, benefit from this. It also raises the standard of driving pleasure for BMW M4 road-legal vehicles to a new level.

For Philipp Eng, the person driving the BMW M4 GT3, the ride around the Austrian circuit was a welcome foretaste of the year ahead: “I can’t wait to take the BMW M4 GT3 onto the starting grid,” says the Austrian who will be participating in the DTM with the ZF BMW M4 DTM. “The BMW M4 GT3 will already take part in its first race next year and will be able to prove how it performs under competitive conditions. I am sure that it has what it takes to continue the long-standing and successful tradition of BMW M vehicles.”

From 2022 and following selected racing events in 2021, the BMW M4 GT3 will finally replace the BMW M6 GT3 as the top-of-the-range model in BMW’s customer sport offering. Since 2016, the BMW M6 GT3 has been part of the BMW M Motorsport vehicle portfolio, already winning the Spa-Franchorchamps 24 hours during its debut year, only to surpass this success with a double victory two years later.

However, before the new BMW M4 Coupe is actually released to the road and the racetrack without special camouflage design, final intensive tests still have to be performed. The official world premiere is planned for September 2020. But one thing is already certain: One of the MotoGP pilots battling for points and placements just a few days after the appearance of the BMW M4 Coupe on the Red Bull Ring, will have the pleasure of driving an icon of the BMW M GmbH. Because the winner of the “BMW M Grand Prix of Styria” being held from 21st to 23rd August will be honoured with an exclusive BMW M4 Coupe of the model generation 2021.

Así es el nuevo BMW M4 GT3 camuflado

Habíamos visto ya su trasera junto al anuncio de su primer test, pero hoy ha sido cuando BMW Motorsport ha decidido enseñarnos el aspecto completo, camuflado eso sí, de su nuevo M4 GT3, su último vehículo de competición. Ha sido en Red Bull Ring coincidiendo con las dos citas que MotoGP disputa estos días en el trazado austriaco. Hay que recordar que la casa bávara está ligada al certamen de Dorna desde hace muchos años como suministrador del Safety Car.

De hecho BMW figura como patrocinador principal del Gran Premio de Estiria de este próximo fin de semana, convirtiendo al evento en la ocasión ideal para presentar tanto el M4 GT3 como el M4 Coupé de serie, que comparten motor de base aunque llevado hasta los 500 caballos para competición. El austriaco Philipp Eng es el encargado de pilotar en esta ocasión el modelo de competición, después de que Augusto Farfus protagonizara su primer test.

Como ya indicó en ocasiones anteriores, BMW Motorsport ha aprovechado la ocasión para reiterar su voluntad de que el M4 GT3 protagonice su debut en competición en 2021, si bien no estará disposición total de sus clientes hasta 2022. Es en esa fecha cuando se espera que toda una nueva generación de GT3 entre en acción.

Does The BMW M4's Huge Grille Look Any Better On The GT3 Race Car?

The M4 GT3 begins racing in 2021.
The latest teaser for the new BMW M4 shows off not only the road car but also the GT3-class racer. Prototypes for both of them will be on display at the Red Bull Ring during the upcoming BMW M Grand Prix of Styria MotoGP race.

The M4 coupe in these teaser images show the car covered in a wrap, but there's nothing concealing the actual shape of the body. It matches up exactly with the bevy of spy shots showing the model's development. There's the huge grille from the 4 Series but with larger intakes in the lower fascia that creates a more balanced look for the nose.

The rest of the design alterations include larger side sills. The rear deck has a tiny spoiler, and there are four, circular exhaust outlets.

The M4 (and M3) will arrive with a standard version using a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six with 473 horsepower (353 kilowatts) and running through a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic. The Competition version will use the same engine making 503 hp (375 kW) and have the auto gearbox. Both of these will be rear-wheel drive at launch, but there will be an all-wheel-drive variant later.

The road-going M4 coupe will debut with the M3 sedan on September 23. Sales in the US will likely begin in early 2021.

The M4 GT3 racer will use a variant of the inline-six from the road car but with some modifications for competition use. However, it'll wear a very different looking body. The motorsport team stretches out the front to add much wider fenders. More angular styling for the hood accentuated the inward slanted brows above the headlights, which gives the car an angry appearance.

The exhaust exits just ahead of the passenger side front wheel, which should give the engine quite an impressive sound. At the back, there are inlets on the sides of the wider fenders. A gooseneck-mounted spoiler and big diffuser manage the airflow.

A good design is a matter of preference, but the changes to the M4 GT3's exterior arguably create a more attractive vehicle than the road car. The front tweaks to the front particularly seem to create a better balance with the big grille to generate a more cohesive appearance.

The M4 GT3 will compete in select races in 2021. In 2022, it'll become the company's full replacement for the M6 GT3 for customers running in this class.

While everybody is busy arguing over the vast new mug of the 2021 BMW 4 Series redesign, but the new BMW M4 GT3 race car ain’t half bad!


As the title sponsor of the upcoming BMW M Grand Prix of Styria MotoGP, the automaker is taking this moment ahead of the event to flex its new BMW M4 and its sibling racecar.


The BMW M4 GT3 Prototype is due to replace the current Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour-winning BMW M6 GT3 as the top-range BMW M Motorsport model starting later next year on a select few grids, and then really get things going in 2022.

So far, though, the cars are still in their camouflaged “prototype” guises because they still have testing to complete and could change. And also because every single possible stage of a vehicle’s reveal is its own Event these days, and BMW wants to reveal the official look at a later date for more clicks, or whatever.



Still—I’ve seen enough to decide that the controversial new Grand Canyon kidney grille on the street M4 is actually pretty good lookin’ on the racecar.

This may be a case of seeing the true functional form of a new design only after the reveal of its pure performance model—like realizing they clearly had an awkward need for a bigger hole in the front of their racecar. From there, maybe the marketing team pushed for the big nose on the streetcar, to justify the racing budget and embrace the “race on Sunday, sell on Monday” ideology.


But look at it. Obviously there is a lot more going on here than the streetcar to help distract from the proportion of everything, but BMW has made sure to highlight the grille profile to make sure you recognize, yeah, it’s working here.

The success of this look is not in the red lipstick, though. It’s the lack of bullshit plastic hiding the function of the new look from us on the streetcar that makes this work. The contrast of the red points out the grey of the inset mesh, screaming “I need air, and don’t you even fucking think about blocking me!” Like a jet exhaust in reverse.



Perhaps if the surface of the street car’s grille was also broken up laterally, rather than just a giant sea of despair staring into your soul, with a more obvious peek at the condensers, conditioners and radiators tucked behind all that darkness, it would resonate a little more with just about anybody.

Is it good if the racecar looks better than the streetcar? I’m not sure, but fortunately, it’s something that’d be very easy to fix in a mid-cycle refresh (if the race car is any good, that is).

Yo todavía no trago el g, me sigue pareciendo más bonito el f30 y eso que ya lleva un par de años en el mercado

 

El GT3 aun está bonito. Ahora el normal... por líneas así de feas vemos como los M3 e30, e36 y e46 se empiezan a revalorizar.. si es que lo entiendo perfectamente.

Un M4 Frozen Blue de pruebas ayer en Nurburgring, este si lleva un embellecedor en el riñón derecho ocultando el radar
